I wait for Maris to settle in my arms before I start talking. “The world is an evil fucking place. It’s an old place too. You think somewhere as depraved and sinful as this world could exist for thousands and thousands of years without something like me happening? Of course a demon would be let loose eventually. My kind are not the only demons that walk among humans either.”

Her eyes go around as plates. “Really? Are you-I mean, you’re saying there’s things other than vampires out there?”

“Yes. Of course there is.”

“Holy shit. Are there angels?”

“What’s this thing with angels that you have? Should I be worried?”

Maris rolls her eyes. “Nah, I was just raised Catholic.” She leans forward to look at me closer. “How old are you?”

“I’m three hundred and twenty-five.”

Maris sucks in a deep breath. “Holy shit. That’s old.”

I tuck her hair behind her ear. “Not really but I am older than this fuck ass country. As far as I’m concerned, you’re the only reason coming here hasn’t been a wash.”

Maris’ brow furrows. I know what her next question will be. She’ll want to know where I’m from. Not my favorite memory but I’ll have to revisit that memory soon enough.

“Wait, where are you-”

BANG. BANG. BANG.

I look up at the ceiling half expecting whatever is up there to come crashing down on top of us.

BANG. BANG. BANG.

I frown and look out the window. “That’s not a fucking ghost rolling around upstairs. Someone’s at the door.”

Thirty

MARIS

Turns out, vampires will make a girl cum more in an hour than she’s ever cum in her entire life. Yes, I know that means that my love life was shit before but look at the material I had to work with in Vesper Point. It’s not exactly my fault.

“Wife.” Julian holds his hand out to me expectantly.

There’s that fucking word again.

Wife.

I feel insane that I believe Julian.

I take his hand only because I can tell from the look in his eye that he’ll pick me up anyway and I’m not keen on a repeat of what happened in front of Maxine.

“Are you expecting anyone?” Julian asks me. He’s pulled up his pants and picks up my dress. “Come here. I’ll help you get dressed.”

Part of me wants to be stubborn and tell him I can do it on my own but that Maris got vaporized about two orgasms ago. There isn’t a part of me Julian hasn’t had his tongue or fingers in. I’m what’s left after all the orgasms. My knees nearly give and I have to grab onto Julian’s arm. I’m in no condition to mouth off to a vampire.

“Thanks,” I tell him.

“You’re very welcome, Maris.”

Maris.

That’s…better. Not a ton because my name sounds sexy coming from his mouth and hearing it just makes me want to yank him back down to the floor and see what else he’ll do for me.

BANG. BANG.
