I glance at my watch. “They’ll be home shortly. I’ll talk to her then. Find out when the video crew can come, and we’ll make it happen. Oh, but it has to be after school or on the weekend. She’s a kindergarten teacher.”
He chuckles into the phone. “Not for long, she’s not.”
We hang up, and I throw my hands in the air. I knew the song was amazing, but hearing how much they loved it, too, just solidifies everything. We’re going to make this happen.
Twenty minutes later, Cailin comes running through the door, and I step outside to meet Sarah.
“You’re never going to believe this!” I say, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her into me. I place a quick kiss to her lips before I let her say anything.
“Mmm,” she sighs into my kiss. “Give me another one and then tell me.”
I grin, kissing her again before saying, “They loved it.”
“Who’s they?”
I lower my head to stare into her eyes, waiting for it to sink in.
Her eyes widen when it does. “The song?”
I pick her up to swing her around. “Yes, the song. They fucking loved it! They want to release it right away on YouTube but with a music video to go with it.”
She pauses as her hands grip my arms. “A music video?”
I can sense the internal panic brewing and lean in to kiss her worry away. “It’s going to be okay. They just want us in the studio. Nothing over the top. Just us recording the song and showing the process.”
She bites her bottom lip. I pull it out with my thumb.
“Don’t be nervous. It will be amazing, just like you. I know it.”
I pull her in for a hug again, hoping to stop the thoughts in her head because there should be none. This is her time, and I want her to enjoy it. The fact that I get to stand by her side, saying she’s mine, makes me so fucking proud.

We enter Jack’s studio on Saturday, ready to record the music video.
Sarah has been so cute all week. We went shopping multiple times with Maggie on FaceTime to find the perfect outfit. After ten different outfits, she finally settled on the sexiest one we’d found. And not because it shows off her body, but because it doesn’t. The small black jacket hides the sexy crop top shirt she has on underneath, and we get the slightest peek every once in a while, but it leaves the rest up to imagination.
What surprised me the most was that she wanted to color her hair back to darker brown like she’d had it when she lived in New York. She loved it that way but said it was too hard to look in the mirror because she wasn’t able to be that girl anymore. When she had brunette hair, she was the rocker she always wanted to be.
When she shared with me that she’d been having her hair cut by her sister for the last seven years to avoid people seeing her scar, I finally got what a big deal this really was, and it made me even more excited for her.
Jack gives her a hug before asking, “You ready to show the world who you are?”
Seeing the camera crew makes her stop in her tracks.
“Let it shine, girl. You’ve got something special. Own it. Rock it.” He sticks out his tongue and holds up his rock-star fingers.
His antics put a smile on her face and ease the moment as I introduce her to everyone.
Cailin jumps up to her spot. We even bought her a new dress for the occasion. Bruce wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to have her in the video, but I insisted. She was just as big a part of the original recording, and she needs to be here now.
I’ve kept her from the limelight, but it’s time people know she exists. No matter how many times I thought about letting the secret out, I never could have imagined it would include me dating someone at the same time. The world can be cruel, but knowing I also have a woman in my life has seemed to soften the blow.
We go over where the cameras will be, making sure one angle isn’t seen in the other’s view frame. I’ve done this time and time again, but when I glance over to Sarah, I see the apprehension written all over her face.
After walking up to her, I kiss her forehead and wrap my arm around her. “Just be yourself. Once they’re set up, they won’t move, so you’ll forget they’re here.”
She lets out a sarcastic laugh. “Easy for you to say.”
