“Hey look,we actually do have another roommate,” Katy announces as I show up the nextmorning.

I shut the door and instantly fall against it, feeling like I need to hold on to it before I float away. “You guys….” I say with a huge smile. “He told me he lovesme.”

“Shut up!” Chantel says, running up to give me a hug. “That’s amazing. But honestly, the way he sold you on being our roommate, I’m not the least bitsurprised.”

“So tell us about it,” Katy says excitedly from thecouch.

Telling them about last night means I’ll have to tell them everything, so I opt for a white lie. “It was so simple, so amazing, so us. I just can’t believe it. I’m going to shower. He took a personal day so I’m meeting him again to spend the daytogether.”

“I think we better start looking for a new roommate,” Robin teases. “It’s only a matter of time before she moves in withhim.”

“Oh stop. It’s not like that,” I say over my shoulder as I leave theroom.

“Uh-huh. That’s what they all say,” she yellsback.

Before I undress, I sit down on the bed and call Tracy. It rings three times before sheanswers.

“Hi,” she barely whispers. “Do you hateme?”

“I did, but I don’t anymore. I'm calling to thank you for telling him. You were right. He deserved toknow.”

“Oh, thank God! I was so freaked out these past few days. Connor told me you were pretty upset and when you didn’t return my phone calls or texts, I was tempted to drive to the citymyself.”

“I’m sorry about that. I just needed time, youknow?”

“Oh, I know. That’s the only reason I wasn’t on your doorstep. Believe me, if you hadn’t called me today, I was ready to head yourway.”

“You don’t have to worry about me. Things are good. Life isgood.”

“I’m glad to hear it.” A brief silence falls. “Kenzie…?”

“Yeah?”

“He really likes you. He told meso.”

“Yeah, he told metoo.”

She sighs into the phone. “You deserve this. I still can’t believe you’ve had a crush on him all this time. Wait, this better not be why you’re my best friend. Have you been scamming me all these years just to get at my brother?” She laughs and I can’t help but join in withher.

“Dammit, you finally caught on,” Itease.

“Ha, ha, ha. Love you,girl.”

“Love youtoo.”

An hourlater I knock on Connor’s door. He opens it immediately, kissing me before even sayinghello.

“So what were you thinking for today?” I ask when we finallypart.

“I want to chill. Hang out together. I thought we could lay on a beach, have a lazy day,” hesays.

“The beach. Okay, I’ll get my suit.” I look down at the jeans and long sleeved shirt I’mwearing.
