My heart knows that what’s about to happen will be nothing like anything that I’ve ever experienced before. But my head—
“I can see you’re overthinking things again. Here’s what’s going to happen. I’m going to tell you that I love you. Then I’m going to kiss you until you can’t see straight. After that, when you can speak again, you’re going to tell me you love me.”
“You sound awfully sure of yourself.” I love that about him.
“It’s the way things are going to go.”
Part of me wants to wipe that smirk off his lips. The other part of me wants to duck under his arm and make a run for it.
The coward in me loses, and I reach up and grab him by the collar of his shirt. “What if we do it this way instead?” I plant my lips on his.
His lips are surprisingly soft for such a strong man. He tastes like coffee and a hint of sugar.
It only takes him a half a second to join in on the kiss and then take over.
The man makes good on his word to kiss me until I lose the ability to speak, but then he has to take it one step further and make it impossible for me to think about anything in the world but him…
A long time later, he leans his head back and says, “Now you tell me that you love me.”
Speak…he wants me to say words? My mind, body, and heart reject that thought. Instead, I pull his head down for another kiss.
“Fine, we’ll work on that later.” His lips meet mine full of joy.

“Stop!” Fiona pushes me away.
No. “I thought we were past this and into the kissing part of our relationship.”
“The nonnas are telling everyone.”
Can we just stop talking and get back to kissing? “Yes, isn’t that what you wanted?”
“They’re telling everyone.” She pushes me even further away. “I’ve got to go before Daria hears through the gossip mill. She’ll be hurt if I don’t tell her.”
That’s what I love about this woman. “Go talk to your sister.” I give her a peck on the lips and let her free.
She rushes off.
I guess it’s time to tell my daughter and see how Dash is doing. Maybe we’ll go to the park again.
Won’t the little matchmaker be surprised.
As I enter the bakery, I’m not surprised to find out the addicts have been eating this whole time, nor does it surprise me to find Sasha Kamenev sitting at a table near them with three tattooed men. His father sent security as well, it seems.
“Maximus Rage,” Maddox calls out from the table a few feet from the boys.
I don’t stop myself from rolling my eyes at him, but I do sit down at his table. “The dead man is still walking.”
“Good to hear.”
“Not well after Fiona was done with him.” My woman’s righteous indignation was a sight to behold.
Maddox smirks. “She trains with Dyce.”
The world knows Dyce is just a little bit terrifying in a don’t mess with me kind of way. “Are you trying to scare me off?”
