I’ll ask again…what happened?
EMMETT
Does it matter?Just tell me how to get her to talk to me.
DEAREST SISTER
Um, it absolutely does matter, ya dumb-dumb.
My advice on getting her to talk to you relies solely on what you did to fuck up so badly.
I sighed, aggravated at the whole damn situation, including having to go to my sister for advice.
EMMETT
I kissed her.
DEAREST SISTER
And how is that a problem?
EMMETT
I don’t fucking know, Meg.That’s what I’m trying to figure out.
A second later, my phone buzzed, and Meghan’s smiling face took over my screen.I swiped my finger across the screen, accepting the FaceTime call.
“First of all,” she said, “don’t get sassy with me when you need my help.”
I rolled my eyes. She had a towel on her head and some sort of green goop on her face.
“Where are you right now?”
“I’m at the spa, so your relationship crisis is a bit inconvenient for me at the moment. But, alas, I love you, so here I am, cutting into my relaxation time to help you get the girl. You’re welcome.”
“Thank you,” I muttered.
“So, what happened?Tell me the whole story.”
“It happened at your fundraiser on Valentine’s Day.We danced. We talked.I kissed her.She kissed me back. Then she bolted and we’ve barely spoken since.I was hoping when you guys had breakfast the next morning, she’d tell you something that might help.”
“We… talked.”
My suspicions flared.Mydearest sisterwasn’t one to clam up over anything, least of all drama related to my love life.Relationship life?Sex life?Kissing life?Really, that’s all it was.One measly kiss and Callie had bailed on me.I gasped, struck by a horrible thought.“Meg, what if I’m a bad kisser?”
She burst out laughing.“I’m sure that’s it, Em.”
I frowned. She was laughing so fucking hard she was crying.Apparently, my life was one big fucking joke to her.“Oh, fuck, that’s priceless.”She wiped her eyes, covering her fingers in green slime.
“You’re not helping.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”She took a deep breath and wiped her fingers on her robe.“I have recovered and I am ready to help.”
“Thank you very much.”
“You are most welcome.”
“Cut the shit, Meg.”
