“Yes you do,” Averi says while pulling it out of Romi’s basket.
“Oh and it’s pretty. You see, Mommy?’
“I see it. It’s real pretty. I need one for my purse,” Adora says.
“You do?’ I ask and she laughs. “No, I have enough purse charms,” she utters.
“Can I open my candy?” Romi asks.
“After we color the eggs and eat, okay?” Adora says.
“Okay,” Romi says lowly. “Xai, you color eggs?” she asks.
“I am today but y’all gotta show me how.”
“I’ll show you,” Romi says while nodding.
“Let’s take your baskets in the room and wash our hands,” Adora says.
“And I’m gon’ put my bonnet on. I don’t want my braids getting paint on them,” Averi says.
“Me too,” Romi adds.
“You want something to drink?” Adora asks me.
“Nah. I’m straight.”
“Okay. We’ll be right back to color the eggs. You can chill in here or at the island in the kitchen. We’re coloring in there,” she says before pecking my lips and letting me go.
She gathers their baskets and the three of them walk down the hall. I sit on the sofa and chill. I’m straight. Adora’s happyand so are her little cuties. The smiles on their faces are everything. I’m right as fuck.
Chapter 14
Adora
“Mommie, is Xai your boyfriend?” Averi asks as soon as we are in their room and my eyebrows furrow. I don’t know why her question surprises me because she is so perceptive for her age. She observes and absorbs everyone and everything.
“Why did you ask me that?” I ask and she grins. Romi joins in, giggling too.
“’Cause you kissed him,” Averi says.
“You did,” Romi adds, and hell, I start laughing too.
“You two think you’re so smart,” I tease as I reach down and wrap my arms around both of them. They laugh more and I swear their little angelic laughter is the sweetest sound, musicto my ears. “Let’s talk,” I tell them, then ease down on their area rug. They sit too, Romi on my lap and Averi beside me. “Mommie really likes Xai and he likes me too. That’s why he had to meet my two favorite daughters.”
“We your only daughters,” Averi says with a grin.
“And my favorite. I love you two so much and I just want y’all to be happy.”
“We happy,” Romi says.
“Good!” I say.
“I like Xai,” Romi says.
“Me too. Me too, baby.”
“Then he is your boyfriend,” Averi deduces.
