“It’ll never happen.”
“But if it does, you let me know,” I insist because this shit doesn’t sit right with me.What type of nigga sends his fam to harass the mother of his kids?
“I will,” she finally says.
“Bet. Now, for that smile,” I say before leaning in and kissing her. When I finally release her lips, she smiles big as hell.
“Hmm! Those lips are going to have me tipsy texting again,” she says while grinning.
“You don’t have to be tipsy to hit me but I’m glad you did yesterday. Let me know when you make it to the crib.”
“I will. You’re going to work today?”
“Yeah, after I go home and change.”
We step over to her ride and she gets in. Once she backs out of her spot and dips, I trek toward my Charger. As I walk, I scan the lot and plaza to see if I spot ol’ boy, but lucky for him, I don’t. The thought of her baby daddy’s family bothering her fucks with me the entire ride to my crib but I try to push it off. She says she’s got it and I’m going to try and rock with that until she tells me different. We’re just getting close and I’m not trying to push her away.
When I pull up to my townhouse, there’s a blue Hyundai in my driveway. Kadean’s here and he has company. I hope it’s not the girl from the other week who was half naked in my kitchen. Although I’m only going to be here long enough to shower and change, I’m not trying to be annoyed.
To my surprise, the person sitting in my kitchen when I enter my townhome is Peaches. She’s sitting at the table with a little boy. He looks about four or five.
“Hey,” she says when I walk in.
“What’s up?”
“I told him,” she says, then shrugs.
“I know,” is all I say before walking to the hall. Kadean is in the guest room standing at the dresser. “What you getting into?” I ask him.
“We ’bout to go to the movies. There’s some new cartoon out and I told her I’ll take them. I gotta do something. She’s making it hard for me.”
“Being a parent ain’t gonna be easy,” I say. “But y’all will figure it out. You just gotta do right and stay out of bullshit.”
“I am. Real shit, I am. I’m trying, bruh. My class is over next week, and in December, I’ll have my license back. I’m working forty hours next week at the shop too,” he says confidently and I nod.
“I know it’s in you,” I assure him. “You got this.”
“Thanks. We out, so I’ll see you later,” he says before grabbing his wallet.
“Bet. I’m ’bout to head to the shop anyway.”
“You own that bitch. You do know you can take a day off, right?”
“I do but being the boss sometimes means no days off. I need to check on the new spot and handle some things in my office. I’ll take off when the new location opens.”
“Especially if I’m managing it,” he says while fake popping his collar.
“Baby steps. Let’s work a full week first and see how that goes,” I say before trekking upstairs to my room. As soon as I’m inside, my cell vibrates with a text from Adora.
Adora: Home with the girls.
Me: Bet. Have fun with them & call me later
Adora:
It’s already noon, and since we close at five on Sundays, I quickly shower and dress so I can spend at least two hours at each location. Trista just posted the open positions yesterdayand we already have a few applicants. I want to jump on those ASAP.
Me: What you want for lunch today?
