“What is there to know? You eat, right?”
“I do,” she says while shaking her head but still smiling. “But I can’t do dinner. At least not tonight. I have plans already with two little princesses. I have kids,” she adds, then stares like she’s waiting on a rebuttal or some shit. She won’t get one.
“How old are they?” I ask and her eyebrows pinch together.
“Four and six. Look, I really have to go. I can’t do dinner tonight but you can give me a call if you like.”
“I definitely like,” I say, then take her all in again. “I like everything. What’s your number?”
“Give me your phone,” she says and I hand it over. “Did you unlock it?”
“It’s not locked,” I tell her.
“Hmm,” she says as she enters her contact. Then she hands my cell back.
“I’m calling,” I assure her.
“I hope you do,” she says before walking off anddamn!
Her walk away is sexy as hell. My eyes stay glued to the curve of her hips until she disappears into the building. Smiling too fucking hard, I head to my ride. As soon as I’m inside, I shoot her a text. Waiting just isn’t an option.
Me: Don’t work too hard.
She doesn’t respond but she hearts the message about a minute later.I’ll take that.
Today has been a good ass day. First, I used my key to walk into the spot of my new location. Now, my mouth is straight and I can eat real ass food. Then, this. I just had a real ass conversation with Adora and we exchanged numbers. I’m ready to celebrate with good food, so I head to Nawlins. I changed my mind about Diablo’s once I got here.
By the time I reach the restaurant, I no longer want to sit and have dinner inside so, I go in to place a to-go order. When I reachthe hostess stand, it’s empty but not even a minute later, a tall chick with braids walks up.
“Xai,” she says like she really knows me. Clean Ridez does really well so I have a slew of customers. Chances are, she’s one of them. Her face does look a little familiar but I’m not one hundred.
“What’s up? I need to place an order to-go.”
“That’s at the bar but I got you,” she says, then winks. “I owe you.”
“Nah. You got that wrong. You don’t owe me. I’ll just order at the bar,” I tell her.
“Your brother, Kadean. I put his ass out so I know he’s back at yo’ place. For that, I owe you,” she says and I look up at her face again. It’s Kadean’s ex-girl, Peaches. I’ve only seen her a few times but she looks a little different.
“Peaches?” I ask to confirm.
“Yeah. It’s me. My face is a little fatter but that’s what happens when you’re,” she says before rubbing her hand over her stomach. “Pregnant,” she continues, then smirks.
Fuck! It’s always something with Kadean.
“Is it his?” I ask, dreading her damn answer even before she tells me.
As I suspected, she nods slowly then says, “But I haven’t told him yet and I don’t know if I will. Kadean isn’t ready to be anybody’s daddy. He’s a manchild his damn self.”
Her words are a little rough but she’s speaking facts. Kadean definitely isn’t ready to be a dad but he still has a right to know. Hell, maybe knowing might make his ass grow the fuck up.
“You have to tell him.”
“Honestly, I don’t have to do shit but stay Black, take care of mine, and do me,” she says, then hands me a menu. “Do you want to order here or go to the bar?” she snaps.
“I’ll go to the bar and order but please tell him. He has a right to know,” I tell her and journey to the bar. The way her face tightens and she’s glaring at me, I’d rather just deal with someone else. Plus, at her revelation, I need a damn drink.
Shit. She’s pregnant.
