A serious of bright flashes left black dots in Andrea’s eyes. “We should give Kylie and Ben a copy after the baby shower.”
Paris checked the photo. “We look like we belong on the cover of a magazine.”
“Don’t tell Mom that,” Diana said from behind them. “She’ll send it to the local newspaper.”
“And then we’ll be so busy we’ll have to hire more staff,” Rosalie said.
Although Andrea would love to have more customers, it was hard keeping up with the number of people already coming through the door. “Talking about customers, has anyone seen the sign that says we’re only open for a private function tomorrow?”
“It’s on the kitchen counter,” Vanessa said. “Do you want me to hang it on the door?”
“That would be great.”
David wrapped his arm around her waist. “The café is a wonderful venue for the party.”
“I hope Kylie likes it.”
“I’m sure she will. Does she still think it’s Jackie’s birthday?”
Andrea nodded. “Even though she’s already delivered Erin, it doesn’t mean we can’t give her baby gifts.”
Jackie walked past with a vase full of beautiful pink and white roses. “I’m still hoping someone brings me a birthday present.”
Andrea smiled and David squeezed her waist.
“What aren’t you saying?” he asked.
“I made Jackie a birthday cake,” she whispered. “Her real birthday’s in November, but it won’t hurt to celebrate it a little earlier. Especially when Kylie and Ben think it’s tomorrow.”
Charlie leaned against Andrea. “Is Charlotte coming to the party?”
“She is and so is her grandma.”
“That’s good.”
Before Andrea could ask Charlie where his brother was, Andy walked toward her holding a pink, fluffy rabbit. Slowly, everyone around them fell silent.
She frowned at the solemn expression on his face. “Is everything okay?”
He looked at his brother. “Charlie and I have got something important to say.”
If anyone told Andrea a pink rabbit would hold the key to something important her sons had to say, she’d think they were joking. But their serious faces worried her more than the rabbit. “What do you want to tell me?”
Charlie stood beside Andy and cleared his throat. “We’ve been thinking about David. We enjoy spending time with him. He’s kind and doesn’t get annoyed with us.”
“He makes us feel safe and listens to what we say,” Andy added.
Andrea glanced at David. Did he know why the boys were acting so strangely?
Andy looked at David and took a deep breath. “You said if Mom doesn’t want to marry you, you’ll still be our friend. But that means you could go away and never come back.”
“We don’t want you to leave,” Charlie added. “If you do, you might never be our dad.”
“So, we thought about what we could do to ask you to stay.” Andy looked down at Charlie.
“Charlotte told us she was hiding behind some trees with her grandma when her dad asked Kylie to marry him. And that made us think maybe we could ask David to marry all of us.”
Andrea’s eyes widened. She was almost too afraid to look at David or anyone else in the room. “That’s an interesting idea, but—”
