Andrea’s heart squeezed tight. One day, she hoped she’d find someone who loved her just as deeply as Ethan loved Diana. But first, she had to figure out what she would do about the man who’d never been her knight in shining armor.
Paris tapped her pen against her chin. “Do you think pink bunnies and unicorns are too old-fashioned?”
Jackie opened a box of pink paper streamers. “Bunnies are never old-fashioned, especially if they’re cute and fluffy.”
For the last hour, Paris and Jackie had been sitting around Andrea’s kitchen table, working out what decorations they still needed for Kylie’s baby shower.
Andrea looked over Paris’ shoulder at the large posters on her computer screen. “I love both of them. Will they arrive in time?”
“They guarantee delivery in three days if I place an order now.”
“I’d get them. They’d look fantastic behind the pink balloon arch.”
With the click of her mouse, Paris bought the posters. “Done. What’s next?”
Jackie picked up their project plan. “The food and the drinks are organized, we have enough decorations to sink a battleship, and the games are at my house. The only thing we have to do is make sure Kylie shows up for the baby shower.”
“That shouldn’t be too difficult. I told her it’s your birthday and we’ve organized a surprise party at The Starlight Café.”
“Do I get gifts for my pretend birthday?” Jackie asked.
“Only if you’ve been behaving yourself,” Paris said with a grin. “And if you’re really good, we’ll let you choose which hat you want before everyone else.” She opened a box and pulled out one of the pink, sparkly hats they’d made last week. “This would look gorgeous on you.”
Jackie lifted it onto her head. “I could be a fairy godmother. Do we have enough hats for everyone?”
“We do. I made the last one on Friday,” Paris said. “If it makes everyone’s life easier, I’ll take the hats and everything that arrived last week to my house after our meeting.”
Jackie nodded. “That would be great. I can’t wait to see Kylie’s face when she walks into the café.”
Andrea stacked the box of hats with the other decorations. “As long as she doesn’t go into labor before next Sunday, we’ll be fine.”
Paris groaned. “That’s my main worry. She’s having so many false contractions that it’s a wonder the baby isn’t here already.”
Jackie looked through the window overlooking Andrea’s backyard. “Someone else is making his presence felt. Charlie and Andy look as though they’re enjoying spending time with David.”
Andrea looked guiltily toward the window. “He’s being overprotective.”
“Because of your ex-husband?” Paris asked.
Jackie frowned. “Why would he be overprotective?” She looked at Andrea and then Paris. “I’ve missed something, haven’t I?”
“My ex-husband’s in Sapphire Bay. He wants to see us. To apologize.”
“Oh, my goodness. Why didn’t you tell me? You must be terrified of seeing him again.”
Andrea watched David weed the vegetable patch with Andy. Charlie was busy watering the flowers. “I thought I’d be a nervous wreck if he ever found me, but I’m all right. Not great, but all right.”
Jackie hugged her. “I’m glad you’re doing okay. Will you talk to him?”
“I don’t know yet. I need to speak to Charlie and Andy first.”
“What does David think?”
Andrea turned away from the window. “He thinks I should do what’s best for me and the boys.”
“Wise man.”
Tilting her head to the side, Andrea studied Paris’ somber expression. “Why do you say that?”
