“It’s a pity we can’t bottle all that positivity and take it home.”

“That’s the best part. This is about to be my home, and I can’t wait. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Sounds good.” David unlocked his truck and looked at the construction site. The research and development facility would make Sapphire Bay home to even more people. Whether he was part of that group was something he was thinking about.

Leaving New York City would change his entire life.

Leaving Andrea before he got to know her would be even worse.

Chapter 13

After they’d finished dinner at Andrea’s house, David held up two fingers and then pretended to open a book.

“Two words and it’s the title of a book,” Charlie said excitedly from the sofa.

For the last half hour, they’d been playing charades. Whoever lost had to clean up the kitchen.

Within a few turns, David knew what Andy’s superpower was. He could decipher anything his mom threw at him—whether it was the name of a movie that was made decades before he was born, or the title of a book that no one else knew.

He’d wondered why Charlie had groaned when he was paired with David. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to play with him; it was that Andy was the Albert Einstein of charades.

David made the letter T with his hands, and Charlie yelled, “The.”

First word sorted. The second word was much harder. David even thought it was slightly unfair to include it as only one word, but he hadn’t designed the game. With his arms swinging at his sides and a smile on his face, he stomped around the living room.

“Monster!” Charlie yelled.

David shook his head and pointed to his smile.

“Giant.”

He was so close, David had to stop himself from giving away any more clues.

“I know.” Charlie leaped from the sofa. “The BFG!”

David high-fived him. “Yes!”

Andrea groaned. “That was hard. How did you figure out what the book was called?”

“Easy,” Charlie said with all the confidence of a ten-year-old. “The BFG stands for the Big Friendly Giant. Mr. O’Dowd was smiling and moving like a giant around the room. That’s what the BFG did, too. It’s written by Roald Dahl. Andy read it to me when I was little.”

David glanced at Andy. He could see he was secretly pleased his brother had remembered. “Okay. After that incredible win, it’s your mom and Andy’s turn.”

With a smile that was pure competitor, Andrea glanced at her charades partner. “Are you ready to blow David and Charlie’s fastest time to smithereens?”

Andy nodded and leaned forward.

She took a card off the pile and read what she’d have to act out. “Okay. Set the timer on your watch, David.”

Holding his finger over the start button, he said, “Go!”

Quickly, she mimed, ‘movie’ and ‘four words’.

After three clicks of her heels, Andy was in the air shouting, “The Wizard of Oz!”

David stopped the timer and sighed. That was one of the most impressive mimes he’d seen. “It looks like we’re on dishwashing duties, Charlie.”

“That’s okay.”
