“Relax,” Ethan said firmly.“We’ve done all the right training. We even changed our diet to be at our optimal best.”

Zac smiled.“If you include reducing the amount of chocolate we eat, we’ve done well.”

“What about the new age coffee beans we switched to?”Theo reminded him.“And the protein-loaded meals we’ve eaten over the last couple of weeks.”

Zac kept quiet.

Theo stopped stretching.“Don’t tell me you skipped the chicken and rice menus Ethan created?”

“I stuck to the plan for three days. After that, Willow gave up supporting me and ate pasta and cheese sauce with every meal. What was I supposed to do?”

Ethan stuck his hands on his hips.“You were supposed to think of the team.I refuse to be beaten by Munro Adams and his merry men from Bigfork.”

Zac flexed his biceps.“Don’t worry. No one from his team will get past us.”

Theo had no idea how Zac’s biceps would help them win a running race but, if it worked for him, who was he to argue?

“Yeah!Go team!”

He looked over his shoulder and saw Katie. She was wearing a pair of neon pink leggings and a canary yellow T-shirt.He had to look twice when he saw Barbara and Diana in the same outfits. And beside them, dressed in a matching neon pink tutu, was Charlie.

He almost felt sorry for the sisters’ canine buddy, until he saw the goofy smile on his face.Charlie was enjoying being here regardless of what he was wearing.

Theo kissed Barbara’s cheek.“This is a surprise.I thought you had new guests arriving.”

She lifted her arms above her head and stretched sideways.“Penny’s looking after them.We decided to enter the race at the last minute.”

Ethan’s eyeballs nearly popped out of his head when he saw his fiancée.“You didn’t tell me you were coming here.”

Diana smiled sweetly.“It was a spontaneous decision made over one or two glasses of wine.”

“We’re hoping the antioxidant properties give us an extra edge,” Barbara said with a gleam in her eyes.

“You were drinking alcohol last night?”Zac asked.

For some reason, he seemed impressed that three of the four Terry sisters were crazy enough to not only enter a half-marathon without doing any training, but to drink wine the night before the race.

“Have you entered something like this before?”Theo asked the trio of pink and yellow ballerinas.

Barbara glanced at her sisters. They all shook their heads.“It doesn’t look like it.But we’re here and we’re eager. How hard can it be?”

Ethan pointed to the platform at the side of the lake. The race organizer was stepping onto the podium with an air horn in his hands.“You’re about to find out.Good luck.”

Diana pulled back her shoulders.“We don’t need luck.We have natural talent on our side.”

Theo sighed.Hopefully, blisters and sore muscles were about as bad as it would get for them.At least they’d make it home alive and in one piece.Which was more than he could say about Munro Adams. The guy had the audacity to slither toward them in his state-of-the-art running gear and send a creepy smile toward Barbara.

“Who do we have here?”

Barbara, contrary to what any sane woman would do, returned Munro’s smile.“We’re the dynamic trio. Are you running on your own?”

Munro glanced at Theo.“I’m here with two friends. We won the race last year.”

“I’m impressed.”

Theo wasn’t.

Katie stepped closer to Barbara.“Do you have any tips? This is our first competition.”
