He smiled.“Missing you.”

A dimple appeared on Barbara’s cheek.“We saw each other on Saturday night.”

“Exactly. That was forty-three hours and ten minutes ago.I miss seeing your sunny smile.”

“Flattery will get you everywhere.”Barbara kissed him until they were both breathless.“I have something for you.”

He raised his eyebrows.“If it barks and likes digging holes in the backyard, we need to have a serious talk.”

Barbara laughed.“Don’t worry. It isn’t a puppy.”She picked up a brown paper bag and handed it to him.“I saw the chocolate muffins in the café and thought you might like one.”

Theo opened the bag.“It looks as delicious as it smells.Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.Tell me about the other furniture we posted on Facebook.Has anyone recognized any of the pieces?”

“Not yet, but everyone’s enjoying the mystery of who might have owned the pieces and why they’re here.”

Theo held Barbara’s hand.“Come with me while I make coffee for us.I’ll even share my muffin if you help me create a Facebook post from Saskia’s video.”

“Are you sure you want to share the muffin?Katie bought some from the café yesterday and they taste amazing.”

Theo grinned.“I know.I have a supply in my freezer.”

Barbara sighed.“I thought I was being thoughtful.Next time, I’ll come straight here and share your muffins.”

“It won’t be the same. They taste sweeter when someone else gives them to you.”With a gentle tug, Theo pulled Barbara to her feet.“And just for the record, I like it when you bring muffins to the radio station.”

“We must be a match made in heaven, because I like bringing you muffins, too.”

Theo smiled. If a mutual love of muffins made them a perfect match, he was buying a few dozen of the biggest, tastiest ones he could find. And if they ever ran out, he’d have a go at baking his own.

TWO DAYS LATER,Theo walked into the medical clinic and smiled at the receptionist.“Hi, Petra. Is Ethan available?”

“His last client left ten minutes ago, so he should be.Go on through.”

Before he made it to Theo’s office, Zac came out of another room farther down the corridor.

He took one look at Theo’s running shorts and T-shirt and groaned.“You’re putting me to shame.I really need to start exercising again.”

Theo sympathized with him.He knew what it was like to spend most of your life at work.“You can’t do everything.Ethan said you’ve been doing a lot of overtime to keep up with your new patients.”

“I knew the clinic would be busy, but I don’t think anyone anticipated how many people would be moving to Sapphire Bay.I might have to advertise for another physician if our numbers keep growing.”

Ethan joined them in the corridor.“Willow would enjoy seeing her husband more often, too.”

Zac smiled and handed him a folder.“If you hear of a doctor wanting to join a small but motivated team in an idyllic location, let me know.”

Ethan laughed.“That’s how I ended up here.Do you have any more appointments this afternoon?”

“Just finished. And before you ask, I can’t come with you.Willow’s made a picnic dinner for us.”

“That sounds better than spending the next ninety minutes running around the lake.If you want to join us another time, you’re more than welcome.”

“I’ll keep that in mind but, for now, I’m officially signing off for the night.”

Ethan held up the folder.“Can this wait until tomorrow morning?”

“Tomorrow’s fine.Enjoy your run.”
