“That’s some cold shit, Blue,” Mauler says. “You sure this kid’s yours?”

I glare at him, and he raises his palms.

“I’m just askin’ the obvious.”

“It’s mine.”

The two of them exchange a look like I’m playing a fool.

“What do you want to do?” Bandit asks.

“Did you talk to her?” Mauler asks.

“She’s not responding.”

“She may have blocked you. You’d never know it,” Bandit says.

“You want to take a ride over there? Say the word and we’ll get on the bikes and go right now.” Mauler is dead serious.

“Want my advice?” Bandit asks.

I don’t reply, but I look at him.

“Give it a few days. Let yourself absorb this news. Then you can talk to her calmly. She’s not walking down the aisle anytime soon. Those things take time to plan, especially seeing as how we saw the shindig Sanchez put on for his oldest daughter. This one won’t be any different.”

“Except she’s pregnant,” Mauler reminds Bandit. “Maybe she doesn’t want to be showing when she walks down the aisle.

Bandit looks at me. “Yeah, there’s that. Think anybody else knows about the baby?”

I blow out a deep breath. “I suppose if anyone knows, it’s her friend, Carmen.”

He quirks a brow. “Maybe you should talk to Carmen.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Blue—

It’s a short ride across town. Before the three of us can shut our bikes off, Carmen’s father is out in his drive with his damn shotgun again.

“Get off my property.”

Bandit grins and looks at me, not bothering to climb off his bike. “This is all you, bro.”

Mauler chuckles. “Call us if you need us.”

They stay astride their seats, and I approach the porch.

“I’m not lookin’ to cause you any trouble, sir. Just want to speak with Carmen.”

“You’re not getting anywhere near my daughter. I know about your damn gang. We don’t want anything to do with you.”

Carmen pushes out of the screen door. “It’s okay, Daddy. I’ll talk to him.”

“The hell you will. You stay right where you are,” the man snaps when she starts forward.

I hold up my hands. “Fine. We’ll do it right here. Carmen, I found the test in the trash.”

Her eyes widen.
