Zack: So Adam, have you told Lyla you’re in love with her yet?
Seth: Why do you keep adding me back to this thread?
Logan: I gave up trying to leave a long time ago. Zack just adds me back in. It’s better if you just accept it and silence the notifications.
Seth: Jesus.
Seth: Adam,how’s Lyla?
Me: She’s good.
Zack: How come you answered his question and not mine?
Me: Because your question was fucking stupid and I’m done telling you we’re just friends.
Jay: We’re back to that?
Me: Stop riding my dick, fuckers.
Jay: I bet that’s not what you’re saying to her.
Me: Shut the fuck up.
Seth: Is she remembering anything about the accident yet?
Me: No.
Me: Which is probably a good thing.
Seth: Definitely.
Zack: So…
Jay: Give it up man. He’s still in denial.
Me: You both suck.
Chapter Nine
ADAM
Lyla shiftedin the passenger seat, pulling my attention over to her. She’d slept a lot in those first few days staying with me, with yesterday being the first day she didn’t need multiple naps. She hadn’t had any dizziness in the last two days, and only a mild headache, so I assumed her follow-up would go fine today.
It had been almost a week since the accident, and other than some lingering bruises, the stitched-up wound near her temple, and the sling her arm was still in, you wouldn’t even be able to tell she was in an accident. Hopefully after her appointment she could start working on getting back to normal, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy taking care of her.
I glanced in the rearview at the car that had made the same last three turns that I had. Maybe I was being paranoid, but I didn’tlike it. Was someone following us? There was only one way to find out for sure.
I made a right and the car behind us followed.
“What are you doing?” Lyla looked over at me with her brows pulled together.
“I think someone’s following us.”
She glanced over her shoulder at the car behind us. I made another right and this time they didn’t follow. Okay, so apparently I was just paranoid.
She shrugged and relaxed back in her seat. “Not anymore.”
But unease settled in my gut five minutes later as a similar blue car pulled out onto the road behind us. “Is that the same car?” I asked out loud, mostly to myself.
