Chuckling, Glenn replied, “No, Nighteye, it was on-the-job training. A job Smokey and I were on didn’t go according to plan and we woke up in a shithole, both suffering wicked headaches. It was only afterward, I found the assholes who captured us nearly overdosed us with a sleeping drug, making it a fucking miracle we both survived.”
“Glad you did,” Sawyer murmured. “How long do you think the guards will be in dreamland?”
“Long enough that they won’t be attending the Council meeting,” Glenn mumbled in response while his mind was quickly sorting through the possible reasons they’d been drugged.
“That doesn’t make any sense, unless…”
“Unless what?”
Shrugging his shoulders, Sawyer replied, “Unless Zohar didn’t want any of the guards to know what was going to happen at the meeting. I mean other than killing them…which would kinda be a red flag to the members who aren’t Zohar’s fervent supporters.”
“Yeah, but why use a drug when a spell would do just as well?” asked Glenn.
“Maybe because Zohar didn’t want to leave a magical signature.”
“Right…good thinkin’,” Glenn said, grinning. “You’re better at this secret agent shit than you think.”
“Nah…just a lucky guess.”
Frowning, Glenn’s hand cupped the back of his mate’s head, pulling him in close “Stop it…I don’t know who made you think less of yourself, but stop that shit right now. You’re mated to a dragon and a tiger…two powerful predators in our world. There’s no way the Fates would give Alex and me to you if you weren’t worthy…capeesh?”
Blushing, Sawyer closed his eyes while the warmth of Glenn’s praise filled his heart and soul. “Thanks,” he whispered, leaning his forehead against Glenn’s.
“Okay then…no more dissing yourself.”
“I’ll try, but…”
“Nope…there is no try,” Glenn murmured, kissing his mate lightly on his lips. “You know what they say…the secret to breaking a bad habit is getting punished when you forget.”
Sawyer felt his dick twitch. “Punishment, huh? By you? And what would that be?”
“Well, I definitely want to consult Alex first, but I’m pretty sure he’ll agree with what I have in mind.”
Before Sawyer could respond, Dylon’s voice came through his comm device. Smirking at his mate, he listened to Dylon’s inquiry and, after explaining what they’d discovered, asked if he and Glenn should proceed as planned. Pausing for Dylon’s answer, he said, “Will do.”
“Let me guess…he wants us to return immediately,” Glenn growled.
“Wrong! Jeeze, you need a better poker face when it comes to Dylon or he’ll play you like a fiddle.” Sawyer smirked. “And then I’ll have to sic Alex on him.”
“Don’t you dare…I can handle that son-of-a…”
“Hey…remember, he’s my cousin-in-law…play nice.”
Rolling his eyes, Glenn bit back the very descriptive tirade he’d planned for his nemesis and, instead, voiced it silently to himself. “Fine…tell me what to do.”
“The General,”grinned Sawyer, “wants us to continue.”
Chuckling, Glenn held his hand out to his mate. “Give it to me.”
Pulling a glowing bar out of his small backpack, Sawyer passed it over. “Don’t forget to activate it.”
Flipping the tiny switch on the bottom of the device, Glenn watched it slowly become invisible as he affixed it to the door near the knob. He then led Sawyer to the doors further down the hall and repeated the process until there were no bars left. Then looking at his mate, Glenn smirked. “I leave it to you to inform the General we have successfully completed our mission.”
Grinning at the playfulness in Glenn’s voice, Sawyer took his hand before heading back to meet Remy. “Smartass,” he quipped.

After answering Mac’s questions, Theo gritted his teeth while blood was drawn from his arm. He hated having needles stuck into him and no matter how many times nurses or doctors assured him he’d only feel a pinch, it always hurt, causing him to flinch.
