“Oh my gods! I’d love to get your opinion on it,” Theo said excitedly.
“How about this afternoon? I have a meeting with Dylon this morning but I’m free after that.”
“That’s perfect. I have some free time before I start dinner…two okay?”
Nodding, Brady grinned. “I’ll meet you in the kitchen, then you can show me where your garden will be.”
“Okay, I better get going. I got a ton of cleanup to do before I start lunch. Rising, Theo picked up the breakfast tray and left the room, leaving his friend alone.
Staring at the closed door, Brady pondered the new information from his friend. It was the second time he was surprised by what Theo told him about the Blackwood Pack and all it did was to leave him more confused than ever. He hadn’t realized how deeply ingrained his suspicion of powerful beings was, but it was clearly becoming apparent he needed to curb them or it might sabotage his mission.
Picking up his tablet again, Brady continued reading the laws, noting the ones that directly mentioned low-level magic users. Finally, throwing down his pen in disgust, he stared at pages upon pages of his notes; the scope of undoing these oppressive laws could take years. And in the meantime, thousands would suffer. He couldn’t allow it. Hewouldn’tallow it. But, that meant he had to come up with a way to shorten the time.
Getting up, Brady began pacing, mumbling under his breath while he searched for a speedy path forward. Sorting through ideas, he discarded one after another until he found the one that might work. Hurrying back to the table, he sat down, picked up his pen and began writing. He’d been looking at the problem all wrong. The key was bypassing the tentacles and severing the head because the Witches’ Council could pass laws faster than he could undo them.
Changing his search parameters, Brady pressed go, waiting for the results. If his memory served him right, there was a procedure the Keeper of All Magic could use to fire all judges and appoint new ones without any involvement by the Witches’ Council. Once that was done, it would be easy to attack any law he wanted to. When an alert announced the completion of the search, Brady began scrolling through the results, smiling when the one he needed popped up.
It was the perfect solution. Even though the Keeper of All Magic had the power to disband the Witches’ Council, Brady knew if Remy did so, it would throw the magic realm into chaos. Shaking his head in disgust, he’d bet anything it was what the leaders of the Witches’ Council were hoping to use to their advantage when they’d ignored Remy’s Orders. But they’d never expect the Keeper of All Magic to fire the judges, instead.
