“From one of her parents,” Remy replied, “who was also a wolf shifter. Whether it was her mother or father, I don’t know. But she has old magic in her…by that I mean, her magic has been passed down through many generations.”

“I thought all magic is the same,” Jackson said. “Is old magic more powerful than…then…what should I call it…new magic?”

“It is the same…meaning magic is magic. Usually, a first born child receives the most magic from their parents…that is refer to as old magic. Children born afterwards receive less magic and it’s usually weaker…however this isn’t always true. I was a first born, yet I got very little of my parent’s magic” Remy said. “There isn’t a difference between old…or you called it…new magic but what is important is how much a person receives when they are born. That determines whether they are first, second or low level magic users…and it determines what spells and other things they are capable of casting.”

“And my daughter is a first tier magic user?” asked Cody.

“She is…and a very powerful one,” Remy replied. “Jessica will have to learn how to control her magic and it’s best to start right away.

Seeing the blood drain from Cody’s face, Jackson put his arm around his brother’s waist, pulling him tight against him before asking, “How can we…what should we do? None of us have any knowledge of magic…”

“According to my mate, Mystia is a member of your pack,” Remy said.

“Yes… she became our surrogate mother after we thought our mother had died,” Jackson replied.

Nodding, Remy said, “She should be able to help you with Jessica. I’ll speak to her about it and, if for some reason, she can’t, I’ll find someone who can.”

“But what about in the meantime?” asked Cody. “What will stop her from conjuring up an animal that could hurt her…or someone else?”

“I can bind her magic for a short while, giving you some time to arrange for her lessons,” Remy offered. “It won’t cause Jessica any harm and it’ll prevent her from using it.”

Glancing across the room, Cody’s eyes found Dylon’s and, using their mind link made sure his mate was in agreement with Remy’s idea. Then, turning to Remy, he said, “Please do it.”

Brady saw a peaceful expression settle over Lucius’ face as he stared at the cottage. The effect was amazing; his mate was bathed in an ethereal glow, his beauty no longer marred by death spell’s pain. Briefly closing his eyes against the sight, Brady sent a message to the Fates, thanking them again for giving him Lucius.

Taking one last look at his new home, Lucius said, “I guess we better get going.”

“Yes…” Brady said, hesitating for a moment, “but before we go, I should warn you…”

Lucius’ stomach flipped, sending panic through his body. Whenever he heard those words, bad stuff always followed. Inhaling, he held his breath, waiting for his mate to finish.

“About Jackson, the Alpha of the Blackwood Pack.”

“What about him?” asked Lucius.

“His Alpha power is very strong…very, very strong,” Brady said. “It…he won’t hurt you, but the first time you feel it…well, it might knock you on your ass.”

Relieved the warning wasn’t worse, Lucius said, “When I was in Scotland, I met with members of the Blackwood Pack on behalf of Valarian. The ones I met also had a lot of power.”

“I know…but trust me, it’s nothing like Jackson’s,” Brady said, taking Lucius’ hand. “Ready?”

“Ready,” Lucius said with a smile, as they vanished into thin air.
