Elle
As soon as Archer drops me off, I call Sadie just like she asked. “I’ve been tracking your location.”
“Hello to you too.” I say as I put her on speaker so I can undress and get ready for bed. “He took me to that cute taqueria on the river. We called it. The coffee date where he was awkward was a test. This outing was a lot better.”
“Outing?”
“Well, was it a date? I’m not sure. I want to call it a date, but I don’t want to call it something that it’s not.”
“I get that, best to keep our expectations low and be pleasantly surprised. Just like with our test scores.”
“Plan for the worst, hope for the best.”
“So, tell me about the rest of the night.” I hear Sadie rustle around in bed, and her dog groans from being pushed out of his comfy spot.
“You don’t want to wait until the morning?” I really want to hop in the shower and then start my skin care routine, so I still manage a decent amount of sleep.
“Uh uh, this is my bedtime story. Spill everything.”
I recount my night to Sadie. She listens the whole time without interruption. Once I finish, she says “We should go to a game. Preferably against the Phantoms.” The Phantoms are Sadie’s home team, and we always wear our opposing team jerseys to school when they play each other.
I pull up the schedule and see when the Wolves and Phantoms play each other. Before I can say anything about the upcoming game, I hear Sadie brag about her find. “I managed to score some decent seats off cheapchits. I got us some tickets in section 135.”
“I’ll bring you cash in the morning, or do you want me to send you the cash through Venmo?”
“Cash please, my Venmo is still messed up from when my card got stolen by that uber driver.” Sadie sighs.
“Sounds good, I’ll see you in the morning. Love you!”
“Love you more!”
After hanging up, I finish my nightly routine and text Archer thanking him for the night.
Chapter 7
Archer
I’m on my way to Dr. Mondary’s office for another session. I’m feeling better than I have in a few weeks and I think part of that is because of Elle. We have been texting almost daily since our makeup dinner date a week ago. Telling each other about our days. Hers tend to be much more interesting than mine. Her students are hilarious and I wonder how Elle isn’t asleep by seven every night. Managing twenty-four kindergarten students every day has to be like herding cats.
“Archer!” I turn and see Tyson jogging over with our newest social media specialist. “This is Stephanie. She had an idea which I think would be fun.”
I turn my gaze to Stephanie, allowing her to explain instead of getting it second hand from Tyson.
“I know SnapChat has been around forever, but I was thinking it would be fun if we give everyone on the team the account for a day, or week, depending how much time everyone wants to commit to it, and let the fans try to figure out who was running it based on the snaps. The rules would be that you obviously can’t show your face or anything that will easily identify you. Sort of like an I-spy for everyone to participate in. Wewould then share the snaps to the team Instagram and TikTok accounts so people can watch later for the reveal.”
“That’s a great idea. I think the fans would really get into it. Do you want me to start it off?”
“I think it would be too obvious if we had you start first. Everyone would guess the QB right away. I was thinking of starting with a member of the O-Line or maybe special teams.”
I nod, it’s logical and it would be pretty obvious if I started it off. “What do you need me to do then to get this started?”
“I was hoping that you could convince the rest of the team to get on board.”
“I don’t think it will be a problem, but yeah I’ll talk to the team and see what they think.”
“Oh, great! Thanks so much.” She releases a breath, thanks Ty and I for our time and walks back to her office.
“I guess I better reactivate my snap chat so I can participate. Seems like fun actually.”
