“Now, stop blushing, Feather. We’ve got lots to do,” he smirks at the effect he has on me.

My eyes squint at him, my confident side making a comeback, “Your cock being unable to hold it in would suggest that it’s you who needs that reminder.”

Instead of being annoyed or offended, he grins cheekily. “There she is, my fighter.”

Fucking fuck!

Why did my heart flutter and melt right at hisfeet into a puddle?

Because he makes you feel and face the emotions you hide not only from the world but also from yourself.

Wow, very helpful. Thank you, brain.

Ezra’s voice breaks my inner monologue when he asks, “Got a condom?”

My eyes widen as I shake my head. He groans in frustration as his forehead falls against my shoulder. “God damnit, Kaeli.”

Again, an interruption of us finally having sex rings warning bells. What if this is a sign? What if the universe is trying to tell me something?

What if sleeping with him would be my downfall?

Twenty Nine

Kaeli

“Hey, where’d you go?” Ezra’s soft but raspy voice pierces the fog of my thoughts as he tucks a sweaty strand of hair behind my ear.

This is the kind of softness I don’t expect from him, and the more that he unveils this side of himself, the more it scares me.

Yet, it is all I crave.Heis all I crave.

But he can’t know that. Because what if this is all an act, and the second we sleep together, he would leave and revert to the cold person he was to me. At least, if I keep myself prepared, it won’thurt as much when he finally does.

People use you and then leave without a second thought. That’s what my past experiences and relationships have taught me, and I’ve no way of knowing that he won’t do the same.

He speaks again. I blink my eyes to clear the haze, and his face materializes. Caressing his jaw with the pad of my thumb, I give him a timid smile. “Nowhere.”

“You’re lying. Do you not want this?” he questions as he begins to get up, unease marring his features.

My hands jerk forward, and I wrap them around his waist, holding him in place above me. “No, I want it! I need you inside me, right now.”

His body relaxes, and he grins, “Good girl.” He scrambles from the bed in a hurry and puts on his clothes.

Confused, I peer at him, propping myself on my elbows. “What…Where are you going?”

“To get a condom. Stay right where you are, Kaeli. Don’t move!” he orders me as he hops on his foot, struggling to get the other in his shorts.

Once done, he sprints out of the room, but not before turning and reminding me in a tone too serious for me to handle, “I mean it, Kaeli, don’tyou move.”

The second I hear my front door shut, I burst into a fit of giggles and lie flat on my back, wondering how we ended up here, from wanting to kill each other to dying without receiving the pleasure only the other could provide.

He’s not gone even for five minutes before I hear my front door burst open. I tilt my head only to find a panting Ezra leaning against the bedroom door. “Did you run back?”

“What do you think?” he huffs, plopping down on the edge of the bed. “Got it from the pharmacy down the road.”

Getting on my knees, I skitter behind him and grab the hem of his t-shirt to take it off. And he doesn’t waste a single second and lets me.

I drop open-mouthed kisses on his shoulders and the corded muscles of his neck, making him hum in satisfaction. Wrapping my hands around him, I pull at his tight nipple, and his breath hitches in surprise.
