She’s a mystery I still don’t have the answers to. Even now, her behavior catches my attention and keeps it.

Pretty sure if I saw such a horrifying sight, I’d drink to forget instead of celebrating it.

I grab her hand, unable to fight off the smile forming on my lips. “Liam. Though some of the guys call me Warden. But it’s just a nickname for now. I doubt it will stick.”

They use it more like a tease or a mock, just because I get a little worried about injuries. Can I help myself? I care too much. I’ve got a big heart.

No one really goes by their real names around here, and it’s a shame. I wouldn’t mind such a sweet voice purring it in my ear.

“Warden?” She says my name again, much slower this time, suddenly making the nickname a little more appealing. Slowly spinning on her stool, she squints at the other members enjoying themselves. “I have something to confess, Warden.”

Right now, I don’t think there’s anything she can say that’ll make this exchange any better than it already is. Well, unless shedecides to tell me that she wants to spend the rest of tonight with my company. That would definitely top it.

“I think I have drunk too much.” Looking back at me, her head sways. “I may throw up here in the next minute or two.”

Well, fuck. That’s not what I expected her to say. It’s gross, but my dick remains stiff.

“Come on, then. Let’s get you to the bathroom.” Already standing, I scoop her into my arms without thinking twice. Sure, she may hurl down my back, but she clings to me instantly. It’s really nice.

Passing by Hammer, he gives a lift of his brow. Is this what he meant by calling her trouble? If that’s the case, I got this in the bag.

I’m going to face this trouble head-on and make this womanmine.

Present Day

I am dying. Well, I think I am. I don’t know. I keep passing out. No one is telling me what is going on, but I’m slowly figuring it out. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out why my stomach is on fire.

An asshole shot me. Cleared my record of no injuries over four fucking years. I am more than pissed. The only thing I can do in revenge is stain their shitty van seat with my blood. Well, we stole the van, so I guess it’s ours now, isn’t it?

Fuck.

“You’re doing amazing, man.” Ripper grins down at me when he spots my eyes cracking open. “Just remember, don’t go toward the light. Trust me, it’s not worth it.”

Trying to open my mouth to tell him to fuck off, Judge does it for me in the passenger seat.

“Do not let him bleed out.” He’s growling at Ace, whose hands are on my stomach. Poor guy jerks and shoves his hands harder against my wound.Ouch.“How much longer?”

Smoke is behind the wheel, stiff as a board. Fuck, didn’t one of the brothers get hit, too? Why am I the only one about to meet Death?

Blinking, I can’t hear his answer. Not when everything goes fuzzy again. I need to stop passing out.

When we reach the clubhouse, it’s chaos. Loud enough to bring me to, again. Instead of saying more stupid shit, Ripper’s yanking the door open and moving everything into motion.

I’m the star of the night, instantly. Movement happens around me, but I don’t have a clue what’s really going on. Not really. I think all the blood has left my head, leaving me confused and delirious.

“Hammer!”

In the distance, I hear her voice, a call of a siren. Cracking my eyes open, I realize minutes are moving by like seconds. Everything is a blur.

I’m surprised to see my beautiful paramedic hovering over me. She’s straddling me, resting on my hips just right. This hits the opposite end of the sexy spectrum when I see my blood soaking her wrists and gloves.

Wait, when did Ace disappear?

A groan leaves my lips as she puts all of her weight onto my stomach. Seeing the panic on her face, I can tell this doesn’t look great. I want to tell her I’ll be fine, but my tongue feels so heavy.
