“We’re not taking you to school.” The one in the passenger seat turns a sneer on me. “Now, sit back and be quiet; otherwise, we’ll pull over and make that throat so raw you can’t speak.”

Dreaded fear slithers over me. I knew they were bad men. My instinct was right. I should’ve run. Now, it’s too late. And I never got a chance to say goodbye to Bones.

Bones

“Where the fuck is she?”

The loud shout has me spilling my drink. The fuck. I turn my head, and Pritchard is standing in the middle of the room. Fuming.

“You!” He points at me. “Where the fuck is my daughter? I know you have her.”

I place my glass down, trying to get a grip on my nerves.

“What the hell are you doing coming into my club and accusing one of my men?” King turns a snarl on the man. “Bones has been in my sight all fucking day, and as you can see, your daughter is not here. But based on you acting like a tyrant, I wouldn’t blame her if she came running to him to escape your ass. Now, why don’t you turn around and walk back out the door. You’re not welcome here.”

“Well, if she’s not here, then where the fuck is she?”

“None of us know. Now leave,” King grits tightly.

“When did you last see her?” I ask. I don’t like the nervous look in his eyes. He’s terrified.

“This morning. I sent her to school with her new guards. They said they dropped her off, but she never came out this afternoon. Somehow, she got away from them.”

I don’t like knowing there are guys following her around. Men who are clearly incompetent at their job. My guess is she pulled a switch with her friend again. She probably changed outfits and slipped out with the crowd. She is a cunning one.

“Did you try tracking her phone?” I ask.

Pritchard swallows hard. “She no longer has a phone.”

I’m guessing that’s to ensure she doesn’t have any form of communication with me.

“Not fucking smart, Pritchard,” King states. “How the hell is she supposed to call you if there’s an emergency?”

“You should know exactly why I took her phone away.”

As they grit it out, going back and forth with their heated exchange, I pull out my phone and get to tracking Teagan’s phone. After the last incident, I decided to put a permanent watch on it. From what I can see on the app, the girl is at her house.

“Did you try her best friend?”

“No. I…” His voice trails off as he takes out his phone and begins dialing. He launches right into the girl when she picks up. You can hear the panic in his voice. “What the fuck do you mean she wasn’t at school today?” He looks toward me as his face blanches. “If she shows up at your house, Teagan, can you please call me? I’m worried sick.”

I immediately pull up the surveillance cameras at his house from this morning, grabbing the footage from the time she usually leaves for school. As soon as I see the blacked-out SUV pull into Pritchard’s driveway, my hairs rise. When I see the twomen get out, my blood runs cold. Fear plows into my gut like a wrecking ball, nearly taking me down.

“Prez, you need to see this.”

King storms over and I turn the phone, my hand barely able to hold it steady for him to see the two men on my screen.

“Fuck.” The gritted whisper hits my nerves as his face blanches. “Ripper!” He turns around, shouting to our Enforcer. “Get the men. We need to ride out.”

“What the fuck’s going on?” Pritchard looks like ten years were just shaved off his life.

“What’s going on is that you hired two Venomous Vipers to guard your daughter,” King states.

“I what?”

“Let’s just fucking hope and pray that we can get to her in time.”
