Her eyes widened into saucers. “You mean?”

Slowly, I nodded, a wide smile spreading across my face. “Always.” Catching her hand, I pressed it against my heart so that she could feel it beating. I wasn’t lying when I said it beat only for her.

“I know I have a lot to make up to you, a lot to prove, but I’m just asking for a chance, a chance to prove to you that I can be the man you deserve. For both of you.”

“Alexei, I don’t know.”

“At least let me take you out for food, something nice.” Lifting one finger, I pressed it against her lips. “One date.”

“I have to work.” Her lips moved against my finger, and I stifled back a groan.

“I’ll talk to your boss. You will still have a job. I promise you. You don’t need a job, but you will have one. We don’t even have to go out if you’re not ready for that. I can bring food in here and recreate one of our mornings together.”

My cock twitched at the thought.

“You know I can’t,” Amy mumbled. “And I’m huge and disgusting.”

My eyebrows slammed down. Catching her face between my hands, I traced her lips with mine. “You are neither of those things. You are a Goddess, but I wasn’t just talking about sex. I just want to be with you and talk like we used to, back when we were happy.”

Before Violet had come back and ruined everything.

“Maybe steal a few kisses because I’ve missed the taste of your mouth.” To prove my point, I caught her mouth with mine. Sipping at her lips like they were the most expensive wine in the world. “I’ve missed the taste of other places as well,” I couldn’t help but add.

“Alexei.” She rolled her eyes. “You can’t come in here and expect things to just go back to the way they were. You don’t get to touch and kiss me and promise me things that we both know you can’t deliver.”

“Can’t deliver? I promise you.” Laughing, I stepped away, but not before I saw the look on her face. My laughter died. “We don’t have to do any of that. Just talk and eat, and if I’m lucky, you will let me steal a few kisses. What do you say?”

She thought about it for seven whole seconds before nodding her head. “We can talk a little more, I guess.”

I couldn’t help it. I grinned. “And the kisses?”

Her eyes flashed, and I backed up. “Fine, fine. I will behave fornow. But I will be stealing your kisses every chance I get, Amy. When it comes to you, I just can’t help myself.”

She fell onto the sofa with a shake of her head. “Food and talk first, Alexei. We will talk about all the other stuff later on.”

Hope blossomed in my chest. She was saying we would talk about the more physical side of things later, but she had already let me kiss her. Things were finally going my way. “I’ll be as fast as I can.”

And I would be, there was no way I was letting her out of my sight for a second longer than necessary.

Chapter Thirty-Six

Amy

What was I doing? The plan had been to never see Alexei again, so why was I brimming with happiness? Why had I let him kiss me? Why had my body come alive and wanted more just because he was close to me?

He seemed sweeter than ever, but that didn’t mean things had changed for the better. It didn’t mean he had got rid of her. If Violet were still in his life, then I couldn’t be.

I didn’t think highly of myself, but I knew I deserved better than that, and so did my baby. My sweet little Alessia. Not even a minute had gone by before I heard the sound of the door opening and then clicking closed softly.

I couldn’t help but smile. “Back to stealing those kisses already?” I asked softly, and my smile only grew. “Or are you ready to talk?”

“Not quite.” The voice was instantly recognizable, but it wasn’t Alexei.

I tried to push myself upwards, and something pressed against the back of my head, causing me to freeze.

“Sit back down, little dove.” Violet’s voice was dripping with venom and more than a little threat. Reluctantly, I fell back into thethreadbare sofa. My heart was beating so fast and hard it felt like it was going to smash through my ribs.

Violet was here, but I didn’t know why.
