Powerful arms pull me up to standing right before slipping behind my legs and back to sweep me up. We’re moving, but I don’t want to know.
I don’t want to.
I don’t want to.
I don’t care.
“Is she okay?”
A familiar voice moves over me. “Marley!” A warm hand is on my forehead. “Marley!”
“Fuck! Get her to the truck.”
“Give her to me and get in, I’ll hand her to you.”
“Don’t touch her! “
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO
JAX
AFTER TWISTINGand setting the cloth, I strike the match and watch as the flames catch. I always liked the way the fire would swallow everything it touches. I smile as I stand and walk toward the warehouse.
We’re here mother fucker.
BOOM! The heat from the explosion kisses my back and I enjoy the satisfaction of feeling the wave blow past me from the initial blast.
Two men run out the door, guns pointed at me, they both do down at the same time. Vasilei runs up next to me with his gun drawn, he got one, but I know Mason got the other.
I take one side of the door and Vasilei takes the other. With a look, just like old times, he winks at me with a smile before he runs in low and I follow directly behind him high to take out anyone inside.
Dimitri’s guys have two guys on the ground, guns at their heads and Vasilei and I both turn toward movement to ourleft and fire at the same time, sending another one down.
I walk up to a man-boy on his knees, fear is etched into every feature on his face. “Where is she?”
His hands are behind his head, his breaths coming hard and fast. “Which one?”
This is his first taste of real action. I remember feeling that kind of fear myself when I was pushed into a little room with no windows.
“The blond.” It comes out as a growl.
He tips his head toward the back of the warehouse to a door. “She’s down there, but I didn’t hurt her, I gave her some water and food.” He’s reaching for any lifeline he can get.
“But did you leave her down there?”
The blood drains from his face, and I pull the trigger.
Vasilei and I run toward the back, he is my eyes since I’m solely focused on that one door. Another man steps out from behind a panel, gun drawn. Just as he pulls the trigger, he jerks backward. The bullet he managed to get off grazes my outer thigh and I grunt at the sting. We turn in the direction of the shooter and Dimitri is standing next to the one man still on his knees, arm extended, gun in hand.
Movement in my peripheral pulls my attention, and that’s when I see D step out of a door thats behind the panel. He lifts his gun but a knife lodges deep into the shoulder of his shooting arm and he drops it with a grunt of his own. Vasilei lowers his throwing arm and steps to the side.
In my mind, I know I need to get to Marley, but I need to kill this motherfucker, too. I wanted to draw his death out, make him feel pain like he’s never felt, but I don’t have time for that right now. Instead, I walk up to him and grab his head and jerk it to the side. The crack in his neck is a satisfying sound, next to the sound of his body crumpling to the ground.
Turning to the door, I quietly move down the stairs with Vasilei at my back, there’s only one door down a small littlehallway and it’s open. I hear ‘just for that, I’m gonna go fast and hard’.
Trying desperately to keep control of my mind, I’m vaguely aware of moving down the hall to see the man from the feed store sitting on top of Marley who is face down on the floor, her cheek is cut and bloody and her eyes are squeezed closed.
His beefy fucking hand is holding her neck, and he’s tugging on her shorts, trying to get them down.
