“Only me,” she cursed to herself. “How can I be engaged to a man and not know when his birthday is?”

Before she answered her own question she checked her next message, from Angie.

She ran through to the bedroom and found a box waiting for her on the bed and lifted the lid to find a pair of red Prada stilettos to match the bag he’d bought her.

Lizzie had replied again.

She had booked her flight for next Thursday, but told him Friday because she wanted to surprise him. She was glad she had done that now. He hadn’t even mentioned his birthday.

Next came another message from Angie.

Tasha spent most of the afternoon watching daytime TV. By three o’clock she needed to do something other than wait for Jim to land. She threw some things into a bag and decided to make use of her gym membership and after two hours of sweating with one of the gym’s trainers, she felt less agitated and a little more settled as she returned home where she ate a chicken salad as her phone pinged.

She put on her computer and checked flights, she was already booked on a flight on Thursday, a day earlier than Jim thought, but that was his birthday and she wouldn’t land until late afternoon. She had now committed to doing the breakfast TV show on Wednesday, but she could fly out on Wednesday if there was availability, which there appeared to be. She phoned the airline and asked to be changed over from Thursday to Wednesday which they did for a charge, but she didn’t care about the cost, she just wanted to be with Jim. She decided to still surprise him by arriving a day earlier than he thought so text him back.
