I chewed on my lip. “I guess that would get complicated.”
A bouquet of yellow tulips materialised on the desk between us, and I sighed. Larkin picked one up, twirling the stem in her fingers.
“Did something happen between you and Archer?” she asked curiously.
“Nothing. He likes to mess with Gray, and I’m worried Gray will actually murder him one day if he doesn’t stop, but Archer won’t listen.”
“He’s a handful,” she said fondly. “Always has been. Even Elara struggled to get him to listen.”
“Did you know her?” I asked, ignoring the email notification that came up on the monitor.
“Yes. Elara worked with Gray, so I knew her. Soft soul. Quiet woman. Archer’s opposite until you got under her skin. She asked for my permission to date Archer.”
“Because you were with him before Hunter.”
“Exactly. And she didn’t want to upset any of the elite.”
“Did they have any children?”
“No. I think that was the plan, but then…” Larkin trailed off.
Things changed and their children would have been in the firing line for not being pure-blooded deities.
“I feel for him,” I admitted. “He hasn’t had it easy, and I wish I could help, but he’s an idiot.”
“He’ll heal. Archer talks a lot, but I’ve never seen him do anything truly vicious. Gray, on the other hand… Just remember what your darling fiancé is capable of.”
If I thought Gray was becoming soft, I was sorely mistaken. Some tulips appeared in the house and Gray lost his control, threatening to rip Archer in two.
“Hard to forget when he’s such a hothead.”
Larkin snorted. “At least you won’t have to deal with Archer at the wedding.”
Elva and Ignacio decided not to wait. They’d kept their relationship hidden for so long that they were happy to finally make it official.
“That’s probably for the best,” I mumbled.
“You’ll see how we do things.”
“Should I be worried?”
“Not at all. We love a good party.”
“I’ve seen that. The gifting balls have been pure extravagance.”
“Oh, if you thought that was bad, what do you think Erik is like with a wedding? That’s his forte. Not that he’s getting the chance this weekend.”
“Dear Gods.”
The laughter erupted from the both of us, echoing around the room.
“What’s so funny?”
I raised my head to see my fiancé walking through the door towards us.
“Just enlightening Scott about what Erik will be like at this wedding,” Larkin answered, tossing her hair over her shoulder.
Gray let out a groan and nudged me out of my seat, taking it himself and pulling me between his legs. My ass perched on his thigh as I leaned my body against his.
