“They chose knowledge?” Quen asked me.
“Intelligence.”
“And his aura will be blue?”
“Precisely.”
Hunter stood on the banks again and opened his arms wide. “May I be the first to present to you all, Cato, God of intelligence.”
Another eruption of noise and Tenley wriggled out of Quen’s arms as all the children rushed towards their parents who’d stepped onto dry land.
They made their way around the familiar faces before reaching us.
“Congratulations!” Quen greeted them.
I picked Cato out of Erik’s arms. “You’ll have enough brains for all of us. That might mean some extra work on your uncle Hunter’s behalf.”
“Grayson, stop corrupting my child before he can even speak,” Erik scolded.
Sloan pulled Quen into a hug and asked, “How did you find it?”
“Fascinating,” she replied.
I bounced the baby gently and softly tried to persuade him I was his favourite uncle.
“Hand my son back over, Gray,” Erik said. “You’re stopping him from seeing everyone else.”
Placing a kiss on Cato’s head, I handed him back over carefully.
“We’ll see you later tonight,” Sloan said before they left to mingle with others.
“What happens now?” Quentin asked.
“We are going to get away and find you a dress for tonight.”
I took her hand and pulled her away from the crowd of people.
Being in Elysia, being at Cato’s gifting ceremony, made the blood in my veins sing with joy. When we were clear of the pool, clear of people, and in the silence of the streets, I pulled Quen into me and kissed her roughly. It took a split second for her to respond, moaning into my mouth before pulling away.
“Gray…”
Her cheeks were flushed pink as she looked around the empty streets.
“There’s no one here,” I assured her.
“It’s still a risk.”
Usually, I wouldn’t let her words stop me, but after last night, I needed to be cautious. Things between us were a relatively simple arrangement, but the knowledge of her divinity added an extra layer of complication into the mix.
Of course, if I could stop anyone else from finding out her true identity, there was no reason our arrangement couldn’t stay in place until I was back in Elysia permanently.
Her reservations were different from mine. She wanted to prove I had no sway over her, but we both knew that was a lie.
“You said we were going to find a dress,” she reminded me.
I sighed. “Are you saying you’d rather find a dress than have sex with me?”
“That’s exactly what I’m saying.”
