“Black for a baby? Really?” Scott asked.

“Aura colours are important to us. It’s a mark of respect. To gift someone your colour shows a great deal of love,” Sloan explained.

“What are you gifting him?” I asked.

“We thought we’d wait a while,” Erik told me. “There’s going to be enough going on down here. Plus, it gives us a chance to think about it.”

“I want to be there.”

“I think we’ll all be there when it happens.”

Scott stood quietly as we spoke, watching the other children play with their pale auras fluttering around them.

Sloan sighed gently. “I think it’s best we called it a day. The kids are getting restless.”

“Are they staying long?” I asked, curiously.

“They're here until tomorrow evening.”

“Am I good to come over and spend time with them?”

“Of course.”

I looked back to Scott. “Ready to go home?”

She nodded but her eyes flicked over to Archer, who was leaning against the wall, watching us all.

I pulled her close, gently this time, and wrapped the black around us but not in time to miss Archer raising his hands to wave her goodbye.

Once we were back in the house, Scott pulled away from me quickly, and I could sense the chaotic anger that pulsed through her. She hadn’t been this angry in weeks.

“What have I done now?” I almost rolled my eyes.

“Honestly? You have to ask?”

“Well, technically, no. But you get so mad when I rummage through your head so at the risk of pissing you off further, I will repeat the question. What have I done now?”

She let out an exasperated scream. “Why, Grayson, was I the only other person in red, apart from your family? I felt like an utter idiot.”

“That’s what you’re angry about?” I asked, surprised.

“Yes! That’s what I’m angry about! Larkin and Hunter and the rest of the godsdamn room looking at me like I’ve done something wrong.” She started to pace. “Everyone else was in green!”

“I know.”

“You knew?”

I took a moment before confirming. “Yes, I knew.”

“So, you knew everyone would be in green and that only your family would be in red, and you still told me to wear red?”

“Correct.”

There was nothing for me to be angry about, so I let her yell and pace while I stood and watched her. It was fascinating; the things that worried, irritated, and angered this woman.

“Gray! I’m not being part of whatever game you’re playing to piss off Hunter.”

My brow furrowed. “I wasn’t playing a game.”
