Making my way over to the couple, I grinned at my sister-in-law. “Everything went okay then?”
“No problems at all,” Sloan replied.
Three young children launched themselves at me and I grappled with them, winning by using my aura to restrain the rascals.
“Gray,” Sloan warned, but she was smiling.
These were my little troublemakers, and I’d even let them get away with murder.
Erik joined us, holding their new-born son.
“Congratulations to you both,” Larkin said.
“He looks just like you, Erik,” Hunter commented.
He was right. Their boy had a shock of platinum blonde hair and bright blue eyes, just like his brothers and sister. None of the children had taken after Sloan. A fact that irritated her to no end.
“Give me my adorable nephew,” I demanded. The rest of my godchildren whined as I placed them on the ground, and Erik carefully handed over the baby. I cradled the tiny thing in my arms. “Have you named him yet?”
“Cato,” Erik answered.
My eyes fell to Cato, who yawned, and my heart melted.
“You know,” Hunter said quietly to Larkin. “Maybe we should think about having our own.”
Everyone’s attention turned to Hunter, and those who weren’t immediate family backed away as Larkin turned on him.
“I don’t think so,” she said coolly.
“Larkin.”
“No!”
She didn’t say another word before wrapping herself in her silver aura and leaving us. The crowd dispersed, not wanting to pry on the family matter, leaving the four of us together with the kids.
“Nice job,” I muttered, holding Cato in one arm and giving my big brother a thumbs-up with the free one.
Hunter disappeared after his wife, and I handed Cato over to Sloan while the kids ran around us.
Erik had been surveying the room when his head snapped to me. “Again? Really? I thought you said that it was a one off to get her out of your system.”
Sloan looked up. “Please tell me you’re joking. I told you to stay away from her.”
“You won’t tell me why,” I shot back.
“She’s here,” Erik said.
“Where?” Sloan asked.
I didn’t turn, but Sloan found her without any help.
“She’s in red! You put her in red!” Sloan was outraged and Erik took Cato from her arms. The rest of the children scarpered as they sensed the change in mood. “What is wrong with you?”
“What?” I shrugged.
“I’m surprised Hunter didn’t rip you apart for this.”
“Sloan, what is your problem with her?”
