“You’re both utterly stupid,” Gray said coldly before he left us.

For the entire night, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from them. Archer’s fingers brushed against her skin, and I wanted to rip his hand clean off his body, regardless of the fact that Quen kept pulling away from his advances.

Archer had been trying to find a way to ruin me for years. To get me back for what I’d done to him. It would be so easy if he found out the truth about us. He had no genuine interest in Quentin, other than to provoke a reaction from me. And if he did that, then we would be neck-deep in trouble. So, I’d told him to do what he wanted. Acted like I didn’t give a fuck.

When Archer decided to leave, he caught my eye. Quen’s back was to me, but Archer saw me perfectly and leaned down, cupping her cheek and pressing his lips to the other one.

The lights above them popped and shattered, glass splintering everywhere. Quentin immediately turned on her stool to look at me and Archer left the pub while Tyler calmed the commotion.

I walked myself down the bar to where she was sitting and locked eyes with her.

“If he touches you one more time, I swear I’ll rip his throat out,” I told her, deathly serious.

“No. You don’t get to be like that when you practically offered me to him on a plate.”

“What did you want me to do? Tell him you’re mine and then see what happens? You know what would happen! Why did you tell him you’d date him if you could?”

“If you’re going to offer me up as a sacrifice, then you need to deal with the consequences.”

“You’ll deal with the consequences as well. Do you understand what you’re doing?”

“Obviously not. I am stupid after all.”

She pushed herself off the stool and made for the exit.

“Quentin! Quen!” I called after her, but she didn’t turn around. She disappeared through the door. When I turned, I found Charlotte looking at me. “What?”

“Don’t take it out on me. Let her calm down. By the time you go home, she’ll probably be more willing to talk.”

Charlie made a decent point. Right now, we were both angry, and that wasn’t going to help the situation. Every cell in my body wanted to find Archer and rip him to shreds. He had no right to touch what belonged to me. No right to toy with the woman who was mine. I wanted to show him what the God of chaos was truly capable of, because he had no idea.

When I finished my shift, I took the walk home to help myself calm down and to give Quentin time to stop her ass from bouncing off the walls.

Walking up to the door, the lights were on in the house, so Quen hadn’t gone to bed yet. I took in a deep breath and opened the door. I found her sitting on the couch in the living room, reading a book titledLife explained.

“Shall we talk?” I asked.

She didn’t even look up from the book. “What is there to talk about?”

“Are you being infuriating on purpose?”

“It’s a default setting. Kind of like how you being a giant dickhead is your default setting.”

“So we’re just going to trade petty insults then?”

She snapped the book shut and tossed it into the space next to her before looking up at me.

“I’d rather not talk to you at all,” she shot.

She got up from her seat and attempted to move past me, but I grabbed her.

“Get off me!” she yelled.

“No! Tell me what I’ve done. Tell me what I was meant to do!”

She turned on me, fire blazing in her eyes.

“If you want to date her, go ahead.” Quentin had lowered her voice in an attempt to imitate me and although it was childish, I could see how badly it came across.
