I cleared my throat and shrugged. "I don't know."
"I think you do."
"Erik." There was a warning tone in my voice.
I didn't want this conversation with him. It was awkward enough. Erik was blessed with love as his responsibility. It came to him as easy as breathing. The rest of us weren’t so lucky.
"It's a simple enough question," he continued. "Do you love her?"
"A reminder, dear brother, that not all of us have your skills, so love is a bit more complicated for the rest of us."
"I think you do."
"Give it a rest."
“I think you do and I'm coming with you."
"No!"
But there was no point. Erik was in his element, and so when I arrived at Quentin's home, Erik was right behind me, still grinning like an idiot.
I sensed it immediately.
"She's not here," I said.
"Grayson." Erik pulled a notepad from the coffee table and handed it to me.
Gone to see Cass. Think we need space - Scott.
It was short, with barely any emotion, and my skin prickled.
Need space? Why the fuck did we need space? I tried to keep my temper in check.
"I'm going there,” I said, feeling my temple throb.
"Right behind you."
If I had it my way, I’d have popped right into Cassidy Scott’s home, but Erik’s aura fought with mine until we landed in a backstreet of a suburb in New York. We made a trek through the streets until we found Cassidy’s home. Erik knocked on the door before I could speak.
"She isn't here," I told him.
"What?" Erik asked over his shoulder.
The door opened and Quen's adopted brother stood there, looking at us both.
"You know," I said.
It wasn't a question. It was a statement, and Cass gave me a nod.
"She isn't here and right now, she doesn't want to see you," Cass said.
I responded, "Well, I would like to see her."
"I'm not sure that's in her best interest."
My aura seeped out and creeped towards Cass. I wasn't in the mood to deal with him. The situation involved me and Quen, and no one else needed to insert themselves into it.
Erik reached a hand out and placed it on my shoulder before saying, "I'm sure she'd appreciate you keeping her brother in one piece."
