“Morning, Gray.”

When he turned back to look at me, his irises flickered black and set off butterflies in my stomach, adrenaline rushing through my veins and making me dizzy.

In moments, he was across the kitchen, mouth on mine, and I gave in easily.

“No,” I said, pulling away grudgingly. “No, I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I will definitely be late for work, and we spent most of last night…” I trailed off. “How are you still going?”

“Gods have a lot more stamina.”

He picked me up, and I wrapped my legs around him. Gray kissed me again, placing me on the counter. Somewhere in the room, my phone buzzed from where it’d been left last night, and for the first time in years, I didn’t rush to answer it or see who it was. I was content in the moment.

Gray handed me a mug of black coffee, and I chugged from it.

“I can get you to work faster than the car,” he argued.

“Are you trying to coerce me?”

“Coerce suggests that you’re unwilling. You, Scott, are anything but.”

I flicked out my leg to kick him, but he moved away.

“Are you trying to attack me?” he asked.

He stood just out of reach, arms folded across his chest, eyebrow raised and looking amused. I could kick his ass, I was certain. I was going to get him in the ring at Sal’s, cuff on, and see how smug he looked then.

“You’re scared, and that’s why you moved,” I told him simply.

His face dropped, and I grinned.

“You think I’m scared of you?” he asked, arching an eyebrow.

“I think you’re terrified of me.”

He dropped his arms and stalked back towards me. “You remember who I am, right?”

“Some God or other.”

I waved a hand through the air vaguely and took another sip from my coffee mug, but Gray took it from my hand and placed it away.

“Hey!” I argued.

He stood between my legs, and I looked up at him.

“You’re a pain in the ass,” he told me.

He was taking up all my personal space. His eyes pulled me in, large and blue, and his scent wrapped around me, familiar and welcoming.

I could be a little late. I’d worked enough late nights to give me some time. Still sitting on the counter, I wrapped my legs around his waist, and he leaned down to kiss me. It was desperate and lustful. We couldn’t get our fill of each other after spending so long apart.

When we broke the kiss, we were both breathing heavily, and he pressed his forehead against mine.

“You’ll leave him today,” Gray said. It wasn’t a question.

I nodded my head. I had no intention of staying with Matthew. Even if it weren’t for Gray, it was never a long-term relationship. He wanted things I couldn’t provide for him, and I wanted things he wasn’t happy to even contemplate.
