Erik nodded and choked out, “I’m so sorry.”

“Why?”

“I didn’t know you were bound until now,” he admitted. “I pushed her to leave you. I pushed her towards Holden. I told her what would happen if Hunter found out.”

“What?” My eyes darkened.

“I didn’t know she was made for you. She’s a demigoddess. It explains why I couldn’t see everything. I’d have needed her permission.”

The black of my aura hit Erik so quickly that he slammed against the wall.

“She’s MINE,” I roared. “She’s meant to be with me and now she’s with him!”

Sloan appeared in the kitchen. “Grayson!”

The glasses around us shattered as the rage pulsed through me, stronger than I’d ever felt.

“Gray! Stop!” Sloan yelled.

“Think. Of. Scott,” Erik choked out.

He knew Quentin had a soft spot for him, and she wouldn’t forgive me if I hurt him. Struggling, I regained control, and Erik slid down the wall and dropped to the floor.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Sloan yelled, looking at me. She stopped as she took me in. “Oh…”

The glow still hadn’t disappeared from me. I turned towards Erik.

“How do I stop it?” I asked him desperately.

Erik shook his head violently, getting up off the floor. “Don’t do it, Gray.”

“I can’t be with her! How did this happen?”

“You can break a soul bond, but you’d be in so much pain. Please, don’t do it. I’ve seen it once. I don’t want you to go through that.”

I leaned against the wall and slumped to the floor. “What am I meant to do, Erik?”

“Tell her.”

“What would be the point? I can’t be with her.”

“We’ll find a way,” Sloan said. She walked over to me and kneeled down on the floor.

“If they think she’s mortal, then I die. If they find out she’s a demigoddess, then she dies.”

There was no winning. Whatever way we painted it, this was forbidden.

“If they find out she’s a demigoddess, then we can convince the council somehow. There’s one of her, Gray. Not an army like before,” Sloan told me.

Erik joined his wife. “Tell her. She’ll leave Holden for you.”

I looked up at him slowly and shook my head. “I want her to leave him because she chose me. Not because she feels obliged to. I can’t give her what she wants. Commitment. A life. A family. You know that. I know that. Fuck, even she knows that.”

We were Gods, and we took what we wanted. But it wasn’t the case here. Quentin needed to make this decision. And even if she did, what could I offer her?

“Okay, don’t tell her, but be with her, Gray. You both need to be near each other if you want to ease the pain,” Erik said.

“She’s working,” I told him.
