“Marcus wha?—”
He pulled me into him, his breath hot against my ear. “I waited a decade for a second chance with you. I’m gon’ make you see that we belong together, baby. Believe that.”
Before I could pull away, he pulled a dirty white cloth from his pocket and clamped it over my face. A sickly sweet smell flooded my nostrils and burned my throat.
“Wha—” I tried to speak as the world around me blurred.
“Shh…” he murmured, catching me as my legs gave out. “I’m gonna fix this.”
CHAPTER20
CASH “MONEY” BANKS
“Fuck!”I slammed my fist on the counter when Jasmine’s phone went straight to voicemail for the hundredth time.
I called Jelani. He picked up on the first ring. “Yo.”
“He took Jasmine,” I gritted as I headed for the safe upstairs.
“Wait—who?” his voice sharpened. “Yo, turn that shit down!” he barked at someone in the background.
“Marcus,” I spat, pressing my thumb to the keypad. The safe popped open with a click. I put the phone on speaker and checked both chambers of my guns before shoving them in the waistband of my pants. “I fucking told her that nigga was grimy.”
“What you need me to do?”
“Call Slim. Tell him to hit that nigga’s shipment tonight.” We were supposed to wait another day or two, but if Marcus wanted to start a war, I’d give him one. “I put a tracker on her phone a few weeks back. If it’s still on her, I can ping her location.
“You put a tracker on her phone?”
“Now’s not the time to judge me, nigga,” I said as I shoved my feet into my sneakers. “I’m calling Nairobi. She needs to bring Kyree in. Time to wrap this shit up.”
I hung up and grabbed my keys. My heart hammered against my ribs, rage swelling in my chest at the thought of something happening to her.
If Marcus violated her, he was gonna regret the day that RICO got tossed.
CHAPTER21
JELANI BANKS
“I gotta go,”I told Shea after hanging up with Money.
She sat up in the bed, the sheets slipping down to her waist. “What’s going on?” she asked, handing me my t-shirt.
“My brother needs me. It’s an emergency.” I grabbed my wallet and keys off the nightstand.
“But you’ll come back after, right?” she asked hopefully.
Truthfully, I shouldn’t have even been here. But Shea was a pretty face with a fat ass and deep throat. Ever since Monica started curving me, I’d been hitting her up more often than I’d cared to admit.
Monica. Shit. I should call her about Jasmine.
“Nah. But I’ma holla at you,” I said, walking out of the room. I rushed through the front door, hopped in my car, and called Slim as soon as the Bluetooth connected.
“‘Sup,” he answered.
“Some shit went down with the nurse. Money said hit that nigga’s shipment tonight,” I said, backing out of the driveway.
“The fuck? I don’t know if I have enough time to get everybody together.”
