“Why would you ask me that?”
“‘Cause I wanna know.”
Irish suddenly felt hot. She waved herself with her hand and peered out at the ocean. Life had been so hectic that throwing an unplanned pregnancy had shaken her up. Finding out a couple days ago, Irish was stunned at the positive pregnancy test. She’d been sick, not wanting to get out of bed. Mistakenly, she thought her symptoms were due to her separation from Noble. However, once her period failed to come, she knew something was wrong.
“Yes, Noble. I’m pregnant.”
He studied her for a moment then asked, “When were you going to tell me?”
“Before we left here. I just wanted to enjoy you for a little while before I said something to you.”
His brows furrowed. “What? Did you think I would be mad?”
She mulled for a moment. “Honestly, I didn’t know how you would take it, considering we had been apart for close to three months. You know how men can be.”
“No, I don't.” He forked some of his fish and ate it. “I only know how I am and you should, too.”
Irish picked up on his attitude right away.
“I wasn’t trying to offend you but let’s be real. As soon as some distance is placed in a relationship, and a woman pops up pregnant, men swear it could be a possibility that the baby isn’t theirs.”
“That’s what lame-ass niggas do. Not real men,” he corrected her.
Irish didn’t respond, trying to gauge what kind of mood Noble was in.
“Well, you know, I didn’t want to be aweak bitch,so I didn’t rush into anything.” She smiled at him as he rolled his eyes.
Irish was still salty at his reference toward her the night they broke up. Noble was so harsh, lacking any adoration he claimed to possess for her.
“Why you bring that up?”
“Because it hurt my feelings. Why did you have to say that to me?”
Scratching his eyebrow, Noble sighed. “Because you were being weak for a man who was taking advantage of you. Also, I didn’t say you a weak bitch. I said if you wanna keep being a weak bitch. That’s a difference.”
She narrowed her eyes, feeling her mood alter. “Do you really wanna go there?”
“I don't. What do you need to move on from that? An apology?”
“Only if it’s genuine.”
Chuckling, he licked his lips. “I’m sorry for hurting your feelings, Irish. The last person I ever wanna hurt is you.”
“Thanks.” She flashed a flat smile.
“Now, let’s get back to the real. How far along are you?”
“I don't know.” She shrugged, mentally jogging her memory of the last time they’d had sex. It was the first time he had planted his seed inside her. Irish didn’t think it would happen on the first time yet here they were. “I literally found out the night I came to your apartment.”
His deep gaze studied her for a moment. “Is it mine?”
Irish gaped at him in disbelief when suddenly, Noble laughed. He chortled really hard before waving his hand.
“I’m just fucking with you. Don't be mad at me.”
“You're a jerk.” She rolled her eyes. “And don't touch me tonight, either.”
His laughing ceased immediately as his eyebrows rose. “Word? That’s what you on?”
