“God,yes, keep going.”

I redoubled my efforts, picking up the pace and sticking with it. I could feel sweat breaking out across my brow and between my shoulder blades, but I wouldn’t stop until we both finished.

I managed to snake one hand under her body, propping myself up on my elbow so I could circle her clit while I pounded into her from behind.

Her body was wedged between my arms, taking the pleasure that I was giving her. She hit every one of my senses—tasting her skin, smelling her shampoo, feeling her heat, hearing her sweet moans, and seeing the goosebumps on her skin.

It was overwhelming. I moved my hips faster, chasing friction and heat as my balls pulled up tight. “You’re gonna make me come, Luna, it feels so good.” I pressed my forehead against her shoulder, squeezing my eyes shut, wanting to remember every second of this but needing to block out enough that I didn’t come before she did.

“Do it. Fill me up, Hayes.”

“You first,” I grunted, biting gently on the curve where her shoulder met her neck.

“Shit,” she said, and then every muscle in her body tightened. I could feel her inner walls hugging me as her orgasm ripped through her, and then I was coming too. I continued to thrust wildly as I filled the condom, even as her body writhed under mine, chasing the last of her own pleasure.

She lay limp underneath me. I took my belt off her wrists and flipped her onto her back before lying down beside her.

Luna grabbed the edge of the bedspread and wrapped it around herself, making a mess of the bed in the process. “That was fun,” she said, nuzzling into the pillow with her eyes shut.

“Fun? I fulfilled your bodyguard fantasies, made you come twice, and probably gave you some fodder for your next book.”

She cracked open one of her eyes and smirked. “Fine, it was more than fun.”

“Damn right.” I settled further into the bed next to her, drowsiness pulling at my eyes. I had made a decision. Somewhere between becoming addicted to the taste of her skin, to her making me laugh while I ate her out, I knew. I needed to call Gray and have him replace me. But all I wanted to do was climb under the blankets with her and forget the world. That just reinforced my decision. I would be there with her tomorrow, but not as her guard, as her…whatever she was wiling to have me as.

Once I was sure Luna was asleep, I pulled on my jeans and stepped into the hallway.

“Send someone else for tomorrow,” I said when Gray answered.

On the other end, Gray’s voice came through, gruff but even. “We need to have a conversation about this, Hayes.”

A door down the hall creaked open, and I froze until it clicked shut again.

“You missed a detail when you were new,” Gray went on. “It happens.”

My jaw tightened. “It got a man shot.”

“And he lived.” His reply was casual, almost dismissive. Typical Gray, he was a former Secret Service agent. A little blood never rattled him.

“Barely,” I muttered.

“Alive is alive, isn’t it?”

I swallowed hard, the phone warm against my ear. “Look, that’s beside the point now. I’m not just guarding an asset, I’m guarding her.”

Gray was silent for a beat. “All the morereason to learn to carry the weight of what happened. Work with it, it’ll get lighter.”

I was shaking my head even though he couldn’t see me. “This can’t be a learning operation, not when it’s Luna.”

“Hayes, you’ve learned from your mistake and you’re better because of it, if you could just—”

“Send someone, I’ll text you the hotel and room number.”

“Fine, but I need something from you.”
