I smirked at her reaction. “A taste of the food. Jesus, Eve. I’m more than just a good fuck, you know. A man needs to eat before he can satisfy his more carnal needs.” I moved my hand from her hip to wipe a bit of flour off her cheek.
She snorted. “You said it like that on purpose.”
I shrugged. “I can’t help that your mind goes to filthy places whenever I’m around. I tend to have that effect on people.”
“Shut up and get in here, asshole.”
She flung the door wide, and I was assaulted by the scent of cooking meat, onions, peppers and the warm aroma of spices. I groaned, moving past her into the apartment.
“It smells good in here.” I leaned down to capture her mouth with mine. She stopped me with a hand to my chest before my lips met hers.
“It will be ready in a few minutes,” she said, her eyes fixed on my mouth.
I straightened up, my lips quirking up in a lopsided grin. “I was going to give you a kiss, not strip you down and splay you out on the table before supper.”
She narrowed her eyes and turned on her heel, moving into the kitchen. “I never know with you. It wouldn’t be the first time you had me as a first course.”
I followed her, the smells coming from the stove making my mouth water. “What can I say? You’re too tempting,” I teased, grabbing her arm and tugging her around to look at me, happy to see she was smiling. The shadows that hung over her when she’d opened her door, lightening.
“I need to take this off the stove,” she said, trying to pull away.
“Give me a kiss first,” I said, unable to keep my hands to myself for another second. I’d wanted to gather her into my arms the moment she opened the door, but I was trying to play it cool. She reminded me repeatedly of where she and I stood.
We were a casual fling.
Nothing more.
I thought I’d be okay with that, butthe more time we spent together, the more feelings I hadfor her. Keeping things casual between us wasn’t what I wanted anymore.
She pecked my cheek and tried to spin away from me, laughing.
“Not good enough,” I growled. I held her face captive in my hands and pressed my lips to hers. She surrendered, giving herself over to me for the moment and relaxing in my grasp. I deepened the kiss, relishing the feel of her.
She pulled away too soon. “There. Was that good enough?”
“Not even close, but it should hold me over until after we eat.”
“You’re incorrigible,” she said, playfully pushing me away.
“Insatiable more like.”
“Mhmm,” she mumbled, stirring the food on the stove. “Sit your ass in the chair so the food doesn’t burn.”
“Yes, ma’am.” I slapped her ass as I walked by on my way to the chair.
She turned to glare but didn’t comment as she plated up food for us. She set my plate down and then slid into the seat across from me with her own.
“It looks great, princess. You didn’t have to cook for me, you know? I would have been perfectly fine with take out.”
She waved me off. “It’s chicken tacos. Nothing fancy. It’s the least I could do since Brian made you come over.”
“Brian didn’t make me do anything, but since we’re on the subject, you want to tell me what happened today?”
“What did he tell you?” she asked, glancing at me nervously.
“Nothing.” I shoved a bite of taco in my mouth. Flavors exploded on my tongue, and I stifled a groan.
She snorted. “Yeah right.”
