“Nah, niggas be doin’ the most!” I corrected. “Do you want to ride together? I’ll be leaving work in a few, so I can stop by my house, grab my clothes, then come to your house.”

“Um, well, Kevin is picking me up, but he did say that if you wanted to ride with us, it would be cool.”

“Really, why would he offer for me to ride along with y’all if you told him that I was calling Troy to come pick me up?”

“Stop doing the most! That was before he knew you were calling Troy. For Christ’s sake, you always thinkin’ the worst.”

“You see why. I’ll drive myself, that way I can leave when I’m ready.”

“You sure, D? ‘Cause it’s really no biggie.”

“It’s cool.”

“How about we do this. I’ll ride with you there, and he can bring me home if you want to leave before us?”

“Okay, that’s fine. I’ll stop at my house and grab my stuff then be to your house shortly.”

“Okay, perfect! I’ll see you in a lil’ bit.”

Hanging up with Ava, I was starting to have second thoughts about going. But, at the same time, I didn’t want Troy to be the deciding factor on whether I celebrated this amazing day with my sister. I guess I was just in my feelings. And to think that I was really feeling that nigga.

KEVIN

“Hey love, I was just texting you.”

“Is everything okay?” Ava asked.

“Yeah, I was just letting you know that I made the reservation, so we’re good for tonight.”

“Sounds great, but about tonight…”

“Uh-oh, don’t tell me you changed your mind.” I wondered, hoping she wasn’t backing out because I had been looking forward to tonight ever since she told me about the divorce earlier today.

“No, not at all. I just wanted to tell you that there has been a slight change in plans. Instead of riding with you to the restaurant, I’ma ride with Dawn. I hope you’re cool with that. I know I said we could ride together, but some shit went down between her and Troy so...”

“That’s cool with me. As long as you’re not cancelling, I’m straight,” I sighed, feeling relieved but surprised to hear that Dawn and Troy had some beef. “What happened with them, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“You haven’t talked with Troy?”

“No, I haven’t talked to him at all.”

“Hmmm…maybe he should tell you then,” Ava responded with a little attitude in her tone. It must have been bad for her to sound like that when she was just speaking so highly of him earlier.

“Was it that bad?”

“It wasn’t good, I’ll just say that.”

“Oh, I’m almost scared to ask.”

“It was pretty tacky on Troy’s part,” Ava responded. “I was thinking, maybe you can take me home afterward. Dawn more than likely won’t be staying long. I thought she was going to cancel, but she’s just as happy about my divorce as I am, so she’s still coming in support of me.”

“Ummm…okay. Of course, I can take you home. You know you don’t even have to ask. Did you promise your sister that you weren’t going to say something about what happened with them? I mean, I was under the impression that we were gonna double date, so it’ll be weird if he isn’t coming.”

“I agree. No, I didn’t promise her that I wouldn’t say anything.”

“Then spill the tea!” I chuckled.

“Well,” Ava chuckled then continued, “Apparently, when she called Troy to invite him out with us, his baby mama answered his phone.”
