“It’s Dawn. I see you’re busy. I’ll holla.”

“Wait, hold up, ma,” Troy interrupted. “I’m never too busy for you.”

“Oh, please, nigga!” the chick said in the background.

“Man, shut the fuck up, bruh!” Troy snapped. “Dawn, my bad, love.”

“Ol’ girl got me hot callin’ me out my name. I didn’t expect for a female to answer your phone. Not that I care or anything because that’s your business, but that disrespect was unnecessary as fuck.”

“My bad,” Troy said.

“Fuck you and that bitch!” the girl spat as she continued to go off in the background.

“Aye bruh, shut the fuck up and come say sorry before I snap up in this motherfucka!”

“Fuck you, Troy, I wish I would! Do what you feel you have to do though. I’m sick of your empty ass threats. Always comin’ around here checkin’ for this pussy and shit, pretendin’ like you comin’ to check on TJ. Yeah, tell that to yo bitch and see how she like them apples!”

“WOW!” Troy yelled, and I could hear a kid crying in the background. “Man bruh, you one ignorant ass female, I swear to God on life!” Troy yelled. “D, let me handle this real quick, and I’ll call you back.”

I was at a loss for words. I knew Troy was too good to be true.

“Don’t bother. It sounds like you have your hands full of a bunch of shit that I want no parts of. Take care.”

Hanging up in Troy’s face, I immediately blocked him from calling me. He had me so fucked up. He and I literally had been talking every day, and not once did he ever mention having a baby mama or son. I was so blown. Troy had me fucked up if he thought that I was about to deal with baby mama drama. See, this was way I wasn’t quick to fall for a nigga ‘cause it was always some bullshit in the mix. I still wanted to go and celebrate with Ava tonight, but I needed to call her to let her know that Troy would not be coming.

“Hey, sis, I was just about to call you,” Ava answered. “Kevin made reservations at seven tonight at Bob Chinn’s.”

“Ouuuu…that sounds like fun! I can’t wait! You can let Kevin know it’ll just be me tonight and that his cousin is a bitch ass nigga!” I spat.

“I’m sorry, what was that?”

“Troy is a bitch ass nigga! You won’t believe what just happened!” I fumed.

“What the hell! What happened, D?”

“I called that nigga’s phone, and his disrespectful ass baby mama answered.”

“Yo! I didn’t know he had a baby mama!”

“Shit, me either! I’m so blown right now. He and I been talkin’ on the phone every day since we met, and not once did he ever mention her or the kid to me.”

“I mean, y’all aren’t dating so?—”

“So what? You’re right, we weren’t dating, but we were heading toward that. He could have at the very least let me know that he had a baby mama. Like, it should be up to me if I want to put up with all of that.”

“I see what you mean. You’re right, he should have said something. It’s crazy because Kevin never mentioned it either,” Ava remarked.

“I hate that sneaky shit. See, this the type of shit that I be tryna avoid. That’s why I enjoy being single.”

“Damn, Dawn! I feel bad because I was pushing for you to give Troy a chance. There must be a reasonable excuse for him to have not mentioned it.”

“Reasonable like what? If a nigga starts out lying and hiding shit, that’s a sure sign that that’s how he will be in a relationship. I’m good on that. I’ll still come tonight, but I probably won’t stay too long. I don’t want to feel like a third wheel, but I do want to celebrate and get seafood wasted.”

“Damn, I feel so bad.”

“There’s no need for you to feel bad. I’ma just be on to the next one is all.”

“I swear you do the most!” Ava laughed.
