“Thanks, Kevin, but it’s Mrs. Miller now. It’s good seeing you as well.”
“Oh, snap! Congrats! I didn’t know.”
“Yeah, I got married two weeks ago.”
“Well, I must say, your husband is a very lucky man.”
“Thanks, Kevin, I appreciate the compliment. Have yourself a good day now.” I responded, walking past him, then heading to the front office to check in.
Kevin was one of the security guards that had worked at the high school for about as long as I had. He always made it a point to speak to me, and occasionally, we would have lunch together in the teacher’s lounge. Things between him and I were strictly platonic, although there was an underlying secret that we both were attracted to one another. He was a very handsome man, built similar to Justin. They both were athletes in school, and you could tell that just like Justin, Kevin frequented the gym to workout often.
Whenever we’d chit-chat it would never be about anything serious. We never talked about anything personal. I didn’t know his relationship status, and he didn’t know much about mine. All I knew was that he wasn’t married. He never missed an opportunity to compliment me, but that was just how things were between us; playful banter but never crossing any lines. In a small way, I enjoyed it because whenever I was feeling any self-doubt his compliments always reminded me that I still had it, especially when Justin had me feeling not very desirable.
After checking in, I made my way to my office. I decided to send Justin a text just to check in with him. I was still feeling the after-effects of our lovemaking session between my legs, and just as he wanted, he sent me on my way with thoughts of him running through my head.
Me: Hey baby, just thinking about you. (heart emoji) Getting ready to start my day. I can’t wait to see you when I get home. (kissy face emoji)
Logging into the computer system, for it to be the first day back, I was swamped with emails to go through, so I jumped right in. There was an assembly going on to kick off the first day back that started the period before the lunch periods began. By the time I had finished going through my emails and finishing up some paperwork that I needed to work on, it was time for the assembly to start. Checking my phone, I noticed that Justin hadn’t texted me back. Remembering that he said he was planning to run errands and go to the gym, I figured he must have been working out and didn’t have his phone on him.
Logging off the computer, I headed to the auditorium to get this new school year started. Once the assembly was over, I went straight to the teacher’s lounge to eat lunch. I was starving and hadn’t eaten all day. There were a couple of other teachers in the lounge also. Thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded so I could sit at a table by myself. Grabbing my cellphone, I called my bestie Shane to check in with him. I didn’t want people in my business because sometimes me and Shane’s conversations were filled with all sorts of juicy gossip. I hadn’t talked to my homie since the wedding day, and I was missing him badly. There was no telling where our conversation would go, because Shane was always up to something. I couldn’t wait to catch up with him.
Calling his phone, it went straight to voicemail. Shane was a barber and didn’t work on Mondays, so I was surprised that he didn’t answer my phone call. Especially since he and I hadn’thad a chance to talk much. I figured he must have been on the other line or something. Knowing him he was probably boo’d up. I gave him a few minutes to see if he would call back. When he didn’t, I decided to send him a text message.
Me: Hey bestie, I was hoping to catch up with you on my lunch break. You must be boo’d up!! LOL! Miss u! Talk to u later.
Seeing that I had twenty minutes left on my break, I went to the Kindle app on my cellphone and pulled upThe Queen Vby Dr. Jackie from the reality showMarried to Medicine. I started on this book before the wedding and was only halfway through it. Thus far, it was pretty informative. She touched on all those uncomfortable questions that most women were too nervous or prude to ask their doctors when it came to vaginal health. Since I hadn’t had much time to get any reading done while I was off, I figured I’d read a couple of chapters before heading back to my office.
The second half of my day flew by, and I was thankful for that. Today was a pretty easy going day. Tomorrow my day was packed with sessions with the students from my roster. Making my way out of the building and to my car, I couldn’t get home fast enough. Justin had never replied to my text message that I sent to him earlier. I figured he must have been very busy. I couldn’t wait to get home to hear all about how his day went and to spend the rest of my evening boo’d up with my husband.
On the way home, I decided to give Shane another call, in hopes that he was available. I figured my sister was probably busy working on one of her clients and I didn’t want to distracther. Plus, I didn’t like talking to her while she was doing hair because I didn’t like for her clients to be privy to all of our conversations and all up in my business. Thankfully, this time, Shane answered the phone.
SHANE
“Hey, baa-booski boo! How was your first day back to the grind?” I screeched then put my phone on mute to kiss my boo one last time before he walked out the door to leave.
“Hey, bestie, wit yo crazy self!” Ava chuckled. “It was grrrreeeeeat! I can’t wait to tell you all about it.”
“Ouuuu…bitch! I can’t wait to hear ALL about it. I want all the juicy deets too. Don’t leave not a damn thang out!”
“I called you on my lunch break, but you didn’t answer.”
“Girl, I had me some company over. You know today, my day off,” I replied with a little disappointment. I truly did want to hear how things went on her honeymoon and hated that I had missed her call.
“I should’ve known that’s why you didn’t answer.” Ava chuckled. “I called you ‘cause I knew it was your day off. I feel like it’s been forever since we talked. I miss you friend.”
“It has been forever, boo and I miss you also. We haven’t chatted since your wedding.”
“That’s true.”
“So, how was your honeymoon?”
“It was amazing, bestie. We spent the majority of the time in our room of course.”
“Ouuuuu…y’all so damn nasty!” I cackled.
“I truly had a great time. I’ll have to give you all the ‘juicy deets’ as you say, when we hook up. So, other than being a playa-playa with all them boos you got, what’s been going on with you?”
“Baby I ain’t a playa-playa, I’ma savage.” I chuckled, causing Ava to laugh. “Me and all my boos have an understanding. They not my only one just like I’m not they only one.”
