When did he get so close?

His arm wrapped around her waist, and she leaned in closer, melting into his embrace.

This was the most wonderful feeling she had ever felt in her entire life.

Caspian’s dark eyes met hers as he leaned in closer. Was he going to kiss her? What did you do when someone was going to kiss you? She’d never been kissed before, never been this close to a man before, never even touched a man like this before.

She closed her eyes as he closed the distance between them, and his free hand slid up her other arm, and then something landed in her lap and knocked her off-balance.

She opened her eyes as she landed flat on her back with baby Mollie on top of her, head-butting her in the face. “What just happened?” she asked, giggling as Caspian collapsed next to her shaking with laughter.

“The baby goat happened,” Caspian said, still laughing.

“I’ve never had that happen before,” she said.

“You’ve never had a baby goat stop someone from kissing you before?” he asked, rolling onto his side to look at her.

She stared up at the sky, avoiding his gaze. “This is the first time anyone’s ever tried to kiss me.”

Caspian let out a disbelieving noise. She turned onto her side to look at him, knocking Mollie off. He reached over and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, smoothing it out of her face. “I would like to kiss you someday.”

Sophia’s cheeks burned, but she felt the same way. “I would like to kiss you someday, too,” she said, almost in a whisper.

She’d never really considered kissing anyone before, but suddenly she was overwhelmed with the urge to kiss Caspian.

His eyes held hers captive. “Do you think next time, we could avoid bringing the baby goats along?”

Sophia giggled. “I think that could probably be arranged.”

“Hey now,” Caspian said loudly, rolling onto his back and sitting up abruptly. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Sophia looked over to see Mollie letting go of his sleeve, which showed clear signs of being nibbled by the baby goat. She grinned as she realized they’d been distracted enough for Mollie to get close enough to try to eat him. “Having a problem?” she asked, trying to contain her laughter and failing.

“She’s trying to eat me,” Caspian said, glaring down at the baby goat.

“She only has bottom teeth, she can’t eat you,” Sophia explained, the words coming out between chuckles. “I promise, you and your shirt will both survive this experience.”

He turned to her with a pained look. “It’s wet.”

“Yes, that’s what happens when fabric enters something’s mouth.”

“It’s goat slobber. On my sleeve.”

Sophia shook her head. “I should have known this would be difficult for you.”

He narrowed his eyes at her, his lips turning up into a smirk. “And you think it’s funny.”

“I’m sorry,” she said, fighting to hide her smile.

“Do you want to go for a walk tonight?” he asked. “Without any interrupting trouble-makers straggling along?”

“I think that sounds like a great plan,” Sophia said as butterflies filled her stomach.

Did that mean he was going to kiss her tonight?

“I agree,” he said softly.

And then there was a splash of water on her nose.
