She stares up at me for a moment, hesitation fills her eyes. I don’t take back my hand or rush the moment. I allow her to deal with her fears the same way she did moments ago. Finally, she shakes her head and places her hand in mine. Progress.

I pull her to her feet.

“What’s for dinner tonight?”

“Whatever the lady wants, the lady gets,” I say, escorting her to the door.

She looks over at me, her eyes narrowing. “I want a seafood boil.”

She’s testing me. I grin down at her. “Alright, I’ll have the chef get to it.”

“I’m still not forgiving you,” she says with a smirk before turning and walking out the door.

I enjoy her smile, even if it is only fleeting.

“I’m still not apologizing,” I call out as I follow her out.

Despite the bullshit that happened today and the consequences I’ll face if I don’t find answers, this small moment with Nasiah makes it all seem minor.

Revenge

Uriah

Every time I think of Raziel, my anger flares. I hate the forsaken. Those traitors did not deserve to be spared. They should have all been eradicated. The fallen were no better. In my eyes, they are all the same.

When I took it upon myself to help Raziel, I admit I didn’t do it out of the kindness of my heart. No, I saw an opportunity and I took it.

Angels are held to a high standard. We couldn’t get away with half the stuff humans and the forsaken could. It was always handy to have a puppet to do your bidding. For centuries, Raziel was my puppet.

He worked wonders for me. No matter what I asked him to do, he had to do it. I’ve wiped out kingdoms and swayed the results of history without ever lifting a hand. If anyone knew of the things I’d orchestrated, I’d be in insurmountable trouble. But I have no fear of them finding out. Raziel will never tell.

I could still be controlling the human realm, but I lost the bell. I’d searched for centuries to find it. When I finally decided that maybe I didn’t need that damn thing, he pulled this stunt.

If it weren’t for me, he’d be trapped in a mate-bond with a woman that wanted him to kill his beloved king. He owes me.

Taking a deep breath, I calm myself. It’s okay. He will regret the day he tried to pull one over on me. When I saw the strength of his bond to the human, I knew how to repay him.

He has no idea that he didn’t just form a bond to the woman, he formed a soul-tie. A connection so strong that if one of them were to die, the other would go mad. Their connection is eternal. The human is now his weakness. And I had plans to make him fall to his knees.

It took me a while to find out everything I needed to know about the female. For the last few days, I’ve stayed in the void and watched her family.

You see, I can’t kill the human. I couldn’t harm a hair on her head without suffering the consequences. But the thing I love about humans is that they are so gullible and driven by emotion. All I had to do was find the right human to do my bidding.

From my position in the void, I watch as the female stares at the closed door the male just stormed out of. Tears track down her face. Her heart is breaking.

She’s pathetic. But also, just what I need.

“You poor sweet child,” I say, slipping out of the void and into the earthly realm.

She spins around. Her eyes widened at the sight of me. Fear coats her face.

“Do not fear, child.”

“Who…..who are you? What are you doing here?”

“Relax. My name is Uriah, and I’m an angel.”
