She gives me a half smile.“Sure.Will you teach me?”

Fuck yes, I’ll teach you.

“Of course,” I say, polite as fuck.

“What’re you playing?”

She sits on the gaming chair next to me and stares at my floor-to-ceiling monitor. Her T-shirt pulls up high on her thighs, giving me a peek at her red panties. But not enough of a peek.

What were we talking about?

The image on the monitor catches my attention and I remember.

“Right. So, this is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game.”

Her eyes widen.“A what?”

I start over.“This is a game where thousands of people from all over the world interact with each other in real-time in a virtual reality.”

“You can do that?”

“You can, and I do.It’s my main form of relaxation, really. When I need to clear my head and disconnect from work and family and travel and whatever is driving me crazy…”

Her eyes flash at me for just a second, but she recovers.“What happens in this game? What are you doing right now?Again, I didn’t mean to interrupt you, so if you just want to keep playing—”

“You really want to know?”

She nods.

“Okay. This is where I level up my elf Druid to max power, which allows me to raid with my guild and unlock the legendary Sword of Zarathulu, which gives me plus wisdom.”

Her eyes glaze over.

“It’s a gamer geek kind of thing.I’m a geek.”

She eyes me long and slow, taking me in from my head to my toes.“You don’t look like a geek. You look like a… superhero.”

She blushes again.

Well, at least I’m no longer half-hard.I’m all hard.

“I didn’t mean that, Finn.I did mean it, but I shouldn’t have said it out loud. You’re my boss.Still my boss.Always my boss.I love my job and want to keep it.”

“Being a boss isn’t all it’s cracked up to be,” I say, trying to capture her downturned gaze.“In fact, sometimes, like right now, I fucking hate being a boss.It complicates things.”

She looks up at me with those liquid-chocolate eyes.“I love working here,” she whispers. Then she absently picks up one of the game controllers and starts pushing buttons.I’m pretty sure she just killed off half my guild and buried the Sword of Zarathulu in the Cave of Doom, and I honestly don’t give a shit.

“Am I playing the elf Druid wizard sword game with you?”

I gently slip the controller from her small hand.“You gotta walk before you can fly, Emma.”I almost called her sweetheart… or honey… baby… beautiful.I don’t think bosses are supposed to have sexy pet names for their employees.

This girl needs to be fired.I need to let her go.

I just need her.

“Have you ever heard of Mario Kart?”

“Maybe.But I’ve not played it.”
