“Senior is the devil. He puts on like he loves his family and only wants the best, but that man will do whatever it takes to make sureheis on top. It was never about the family. Bentayga was able to outsell him in his own city, and he felt intimidated. He’s greedy, selfish… I don’t like him, and I never will,” she expressed, and it seemed like she was standing on business.

I heard stories, and I even asked Daisy what was the real behind Bentayga’s death and she sugarcoated that shit. Now Yonnis asked a simple question, and she was in an uproar. I was putting the pieces together as fast as I could, but I was genuinely lost. Daisy loved Rose so I understood her beef there, but her nieces and nephews… The only person that could clear the air was Royce Sr.

To protect her, I stepped up and shut that traveling shit down. “Nah, she ain’t going. She good right here. If them niggas want to meet somebody, I’m all they getting. I don’t play ‘bout this one. Family or not, if she feels threatened, I’m putting you down.”

Yonnis threw his hands up while shaking his head. “I ain’t got no beef. Daisy, I do have something for you from Rose. She left her insurance policy and all that good stuff to Genesis, Senior’s baby boy. However, her house in Frost Peaks is yours. She said something about it being you guys’ hideaway when y’all were younger.”

Nodding, she wiped her tears and gave a half smile. “Yeah, when I would sneak up there to visit, we would share a place in Frost Peaks. Oh, we had a time there.”

“I will bring the papers down in a week or so to sign it all over. Rose really loved her family, especially you two. She told me a lot, and I had to keep it from the family for years. Don’t let anyone tell y’all she wasn’t looking out for you,” he said offering assurance.

“I know my sister,” Daisy snapped. “If it wasn’t for her, raising him would’ve been a hassle. I know how much she loved us.”

Seemed like Rose handled her business. It was Royce Sr. that didn’t know the real definition of family. Heidi let it be known that Genesis was Uncle Royce’s illegitimate child that he never told anyone about for twenty something odd years. That shit was still blowing my mind. I was starting to understand why Royce acted the way he did. He was following in Rose’s footsteps.

“Aight, we off them. You ain’t going so do what you got to do Yonnis. Y’all trying to go out and grub or order in for dinner. A nigga gon’ be ready to throw down again in a few?” I said changing the subject. I was tired of seeing my heart filled with so much emotion.

“I’ll cook. I need something to calm me down. What you want baby boy? I can make all your favorites. Smothered turkey wings, collard greens and turkey necks, sweet potatoes, broccoli cheddar casserole, and some buttermilk biscuits. I made a five-flavor pound cake yesterday. We can have that for dessert,” she voiced running down the menu.

“Yeah, I need that,” I chimed grinning from ear to ear.

“Alright. Y’all go on out my kitchen then and let me work,” she said shooing us out.

We dipped out and headed to the patio. It felt damned good outside, and we could all use that breath of fresh air. I coppeda squat with Kong and Yonnis sitting across from me. I was the only one that sat with my back turned because I knew Sarabi and Nyla wouldn’t dare cross me.

Kong pulled out a case of pre-rolls and I instantly perked up. A nigga ain’t felt pure THC in his lungs in a while, and dammit, I just couldn’t hold back. I grabbed one and fired it up. Inhaling deeply, I let the smoke fill my lungs, as my eyes closed off contact.

Damn, I needed this.

It took me a minute to find my voice since the weed was hitting, but eventually, I was able to start conversation. “Windale, I need him off the map like yesterday, Kong.”

“I’ll call you with the confirmation in the morning when it’s done. What you gon’ do ‘bout Enzo? He ain’t trying to walk from that ten million and you know it.”

“Yonnis, what he need to claim that?” I asked directing my attention to him.

“Birth certificate, social, and blood test,” he replied.

“Cool. I need you to come with me tomorrow so we can do this blood test. I got everything else inside. All I need is a few days, Yonnis. If he calls before then ready to cash in, stall him. I got shit to handle down here.”

“I can do that. How you feel ‘bout meeting them?”

“I’m just trying to get this shit over with, bring my wife and kid home, and get back to making money. It’s cool seeing I got more family outside of Daisy, but my focus is elsewhere. No disrespect to them niggas, but I don’t give a fuck about them.”

It truly wasn’t no disrespect. I was willing to build bonds and whatever else they wanted. However, I wasn’t changing my lifestyle to accommodate theirs. I wasn’t leaving my empire to fill this family void they had either. Heidi and Lincoln were the only ones getting effort. I wasn’t settling again without them.

“Wife and kid? Who?” Kong questioned sitting up.

“Heidi and Lincoln? Do they know that? I mean, the delusion gene is dominant in every male Atkins but do y’all have to give into it. Heidi’s a touch-me-not. She really ain’t interested in men,” he stated.

“Nah, she ain’t interested in niggas that can’t do shit for her. I’m providing financial stability, protection, and a lifetime of unconditional love. She ain’t gon’ find that in nobody but me. And for the record, I’m not delusional. I’m a manifestor.”

Lil’ Mama messed up the moment she let me know she was riding for me. There wasn’t shit I set my mind out to get and didn’t get it. She had a home in me and didn’t even know it. Her son had a father and didn’t even know it. She needed time to adjust to me, and I had about thirty days of it before we went to the courts. Wasting time wasn’t my M.O.

My time in this busted ass city was finally coming to an end. Truth be told, I been ready to get the fuck on since day one. I didn’t give a fuck ‘bout these folk here and I damn sure ain’t want no kumbaya from nan one of them. Senior, he killed my Pops, and he let that be known he did by his smartass remarks.
