Giavanna had been praying harder than she ever had since finding out she had cancer. She had something else to add to the list because only God would be able to help her control her feelings when it came to Mr. Brazil Thornton.
CHAPTER 9
Blossom gotout of her car but remained beside it while Fancy talked to the two police officers standing in front of her. Fancy had been working when she got word that Nick was in the parking lot. Even if she wasn’t busy, Fancy wouldn’t have walked outside to talk to him. She was so sick of Nick that she wanted to scream. Once he left, curiosity got the best of her, and she went outside to inspect her car. She wasn’t surprised in the least when she noticed that two of her tires were flat. She was done ignoring Nick and trying to be nice while waiting for his tantrums to subside. Doing something she’d never done when it came to Nick’s antics, Fancy called the police and pressed charges against him. She also made it known that she wanted to file a restraining order against him as well.
She was sure jail was wheelchair friendly and even if it wasn’t, she didn’t care. Nick was going to leave her alone or be arrested for stalking and harassment. He was starting to do too much. A tow truck was on the way to take her car to the tire shop of her choice. When Blossom was done with practice, she stopped by to give Fancy a ride home from work. When the officers were done, they walked off, and Fancy trekked toward Blossom with a frown.
“The fucking ghetto.” She rolled her eyes. “If God had taken my legs, I might be angry at first, but I swear, I’d be a little nicer to people.”
“Technically, he still has legs,” Blossom joked. “What did the police say?”
“Well, they’re useless as hell, but we already know that. And the usual bullshit. You know how many women have taken out restraining orders and the very man that was supposed to stay away from them took their lives?”
“Wait”—Blossom frowned—“do you really think Nick would kill you?”
“I don’t put it past him, but I’m not too worried about it. However, if he comes to my home again, I’m going to do something about it. I won’t aim to kill, but I promise, he will think twice about rolling up on anyone else. I got the restraining order to leave a paper trail and cover myself.”
Despite Nick being a stalker and an asshole, Blossom knew that Fancy didn’t want to shoot him. She would if she had to, but she didn’t want to. Blossom prayed that Nick would find it in his heart to leave her friend be because though Fancy was tough, Blossom didn’t want her to have to endure the trauma of shooting someone.
Blossom started the car. “Is there anywhere you need to stop before I take you home?” Since it was late in the evening, her car wouldn’t be ready until the next day.
“No. I already agreed to have dinner with Capo. His chef is coming through to prepare a meal since it’s his last night home for a while. He’s about to go on a twenty-city tour.”
With a smile, Blossom wiggled her brows. “Not Mr. Rapper. We’re going to his house again?”
“Only to get a meal.” Fancy waved Blossom’s excitement off. “I’m hoping he’ll meet some big booty groupie on tour that will blow his mind and make him forget about me. Every time I startthinking he might be okay, Nick does something to make me hate the male species. I really don’t want to be bothered.”
“And that’s what he wants.” Blossom scowled. “He wants you frustrated and scared to move on. He’s miserable, and he wants you to be miserable, too. I don’t know if Capo is your soulmate, but I damn sure wouldn’t let Nick be the deciding factor on whether or not I gave him a chance.”
“Nick might play a part in it, but I doubt it’s the deciding factor. I’ll never trust a rapper not to fumble my heart. Capo may very well be a good person, but I won’t hold my breath. I think I’m doing myself a favor by refusing to take a man serious.”
“If you say so,” Blossom mumbled. In her opinion, everyone deserved healthy love. If her friend was truly happy not looking for it, Blossom had to accept it.
“What are you doing tonight?” Fancy changed the subject with a knowing grin.
Blossom took her eyes off the road and glanced over at her friend. “Why are you asking me that like you already know what my plans are?”
“I never said that. Maybe I’m just hoping they’re with Felon Bae.”
With a laugh, Blossom reached over and playfully hit her friend on the arm. “Bro, stop calling him that. Yes. Tomorrow is his last day free before school starts, and he wants to go bowling.”
“I know you were on top of this with Ty but be sure your birth control is doing what it needs to do, friend. That fresh out of prison sperm is potent.”
“Trust me, I have that covered. A baby is the last thing either of us wants.” The mere thought of Tech made Blossom clinch her thighs together.
The day after they had sex for the first time, Tech met her when she got off work. They grabbed some ice cream and hada nice little date at the lake before going back to his place and having sex that was even better than the first time. Blossom’s thighs were extremely sore, but pain had never felt so good. Every time she winced, it reminded her of the beating Tech put on her pussy, and she trembled.
Fancy’s phone rang, and she answered the call. She explained what happened to whoever it was on the other end of the phone. Hearing Fancy repeat what she already knew made Blossom forget all about Tech, and the concern for her friend returned. When Fancy’s phone call ended, Blossom was less than a mile away from her house.
“You sure you comfortable with going home? After you have dinner with Capo, I can come back and get you. You can spend the night at my house.”
“I told you I’m not scared of Nick. If he keeps bothering me, I will shoot him.”
Blossom nodded. Every time she watched a true crime show and saw a case where a woman or man was killed by a scorned lover, it made her hesitant to date. It also reminded her that she was dating a man who had done eleven years in prison. Tech hadn’t given her any kind of red flags, but only time would tell. She just hoped she didn’t become so caught up in the way her body responded to him that she ignored pertinent signs. Lord knows, she didn’t want him to end up being crazy. She didn’t want to subject her children to that. Blossom felt guilty enough for them having to endure years of her and Cedric not being a healthy example of love and marriage.
It didn’t take her long to realize that staying together for the kids was often one of the worst things parents could do. Blossom dropped her friend off at home then went home to take a shower and get ready for her bowling date. When Blossom got home, Chosen was in the backyard playing basketball with his friends. Creed was in the kitchen making a sandwich.
“You and your brother can tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll order it before I leave.”
