“What?” I asked.

“I like you around Charlotte.”

“Oh, I like it too. I love you so much, little one.”

I felt like we were truly a family, and I’d never been more content in my life. For the rest of the evening, he pampered me—by ordering some chicken soup and then relaxing on the couch with me.

“How do you feel?” he asked when he tucked me into bed.

“The same.” Even though I was still nauseated, it didn’t seem like anything was going to come up anymore.

I ended up eating my words because I was sick first thing the next morning, only I didn’t feel much better after I threw up. Beckett was already up by the time I got out of the bathroom. I heard him walking around the penthouse with Charlotte.

“Good morning,” I said loudly so he knew I was awake.

He hurried into the master bedroom with Charlotte. He was dressed in workout clothes, and Charlotte also had an outfit on, not just a onesie.

“Heading somewhere?” I asked.

“Yeah, Agatha can’t make it today. I asked Mom to come, and she’ll be here later on. I’m going to take Charlotte out for a walk now because she’s a bit fussy. How are you feeling?”

“Sick, but it’s going to pass,” I said because I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. “How long is the walk going to take?”

“Half an hour, forty minutes, give or take. Depends on Charlotte.”

“Not sure if I’ll be here. I have a call with Josh.”

“We’ll catch up later, then. You know I love you,” he said, and I swooned.

“I love you more. But I won’t kiss you because I don’t want either of you getting whatever I’ve got.”

He frowned. “I hate that you’re sick, babe. Feel better.”

I wanted to join them for the walk, but I needed to go back and lie in bed for a bit. I didn’t even manage to do that, though, because the second they left, I had my head down the toilet again.

Holy crap. What is going on?

As I washed my face, I thought about everything I ate yesterday. Nothing had tasted funny. Was I PMSing? I’d never felt like this when I was premenstrual, though.

Come to think of it, I should’ve gotten my period already.

I mentally calculated when I had it the last time.

Oh my God!With all the excitement around the draft video and attending the filming, I hadn’t even realized I was a whole week late.

I swallowed hard, and my heart started beating erratically. My period was never more than two or three days late. Holy shit, that wasn’t possible, right? I mean, Beckett and I always used a condom. We did have a bit of foreplay without it, but surely you couldn’t get pregnant from that.

And yet my period was late.

I took out my phone, searching for a nearby drugstore before remembering there was one in his building. I had to know.

After dressing quickly, I headed down in the elevator. I had to actually leave the building and go in through a separate entrance to get to the pharmacy.

I walked straight to the aisle with feminine hygiene products and grabbed a test. They only had a basic one with stripes, nothing digital, but it didn’t matter. I just had to put my mind at ease.

As I went to the cash register, the sales assistant grimaced. “Are you feeling all right?”

I shook my head, then realized she was asking because of what I’d put on the counter. Smiling, she gave me a thumbs-up. “I see. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.”
