“We’re glad you like it,” Isabeau said.

“I’m proud of it. I think it’s one of our best,” Celine added.

“Is the price the same as the others?”

“Oh, no. You’re part of the family now. You don’t pay in our store,” Isabeau said.

My throat clogged with emotion. “Thank you. That’s very kind of you.”

Both of them looked at me with soft expressions. “Listen, we don’t want to put any pressure on you and Beckett,” Isabeau began.

“You two are a good fit,” Celine added. “I don’t think eitherof you really sees it now—at least not the way we do. Just promise us one thing, please.”

“Okay.”

“That you’ll let things unfold and embrace everything.”

“I was going to do that anyway,” I admitted. “It’s just the way I do things.”

“See? You’re perfect for Beckett.”

My heart swelled in size. They had to be right. They were his grandmothers; surely they knew him well. Of course, they could be seeing everything through rose-colored glasses just because their other grandsons had found their soulmates, but who cared?

I was a happy camper as I walked out with my bottle of lilac. There was already some on my wrist, but I wanted it behind my ears, too, so I smeared some on, smiling from ear to ear as I headed to Café Du Monde. I didn’t tell Beckett that I was on my way.

When I arrived, I found him and Charlotte seated at a table. He was holding her up above his head, cooing at her.Oh, heavens! This man had a piece of my heart. Damn it, when had I given it to him? I didn’t even realize it. Or did it happen just now?

Maybe there was more to this lilac thing than I thought.

I walked up to them and grinned. “That’s a sight I won’t get tired of anytime soon,” I declared.

Beckett looked at me with an amused expression, lowering Charlotte to his chest. “How did it go?”

“I got my lilac perfume. Want to smell it?” I batted my eyelashes.

“You bet.”

I lowered myself until my neck was level with his nose, and he took in a deep breath. The exhale tickled me.

“Fuck,” he exclaimed.

I straightened up. “What?” I hadn’t counted on that reaction.

“It smells like…” He cleared his throat and covered Charlotte’s ears with his thumbs. “It’s so fucking sexy,” he said in a growl.

Oh my goodness. He’d covered his daughter’s ears so she wouldn’t hear. That was beyond adorable.

“I think that’s the point.” I wondered if I should share everything his grandmothers told me, but it felt personal and directed to me.

“By the way, before I forget, will you be at the office on Tuesday for the meeting?” I had met with his team a few times over the past weeks, and Beckett hadn’t been there.

He nodded. “Yeah. I’ve missed far too many.”

“No problem. Your team is very competent.”

“They are. Still, I’ll be there on Tuesday.”

I wondered how we would play things, but honestly, I wasn’t too worried.
