“How’s Charlotte doing? Who’s with her?”
“She’s great. She’s enjoying her time with both of my grandmothers.”
“Celine and Isabeau are the best.”
“My grandfathers were joking that Charlotte might be the one to convince them to retire after all, but I don’t think so. They love Fragrant Delights way too much.”
“You have a new car,” I said, then whistled appreciatively.
“I’m a bit of a car addict.” This was a Ford Mustang, and he’d put the roof down.
Once we were inside, I clapped my hands excitedly. “This is going to be so much fun. I’ve never been in a convertible before.”
“The weather’s nice. Figured we could take advantage of it.”
“Where are we going exactly?”
“The rooftop restaurant above the Westin Hotel.”
“That’s such a cool idea.”
“Figured you’d enjoy something overlooking the city. You really seemed to like the view from the penthouse.”
I grinned at him as he pulled away from the curb and the wind blew through my hair. I held it with one hand at the back of my head; otherwise, I risked it getting tangled. Closing my eyes, I dropped my head back on the headrest. When I opened them again, I noticed Beckett was watching me.
“Hey, you’re driving!”
“I’m keeping us safe, don’t worry. I just like watching you too. Can’t stop myself. I like the way you’re enjoying this.”
“What’s not to enjoy?” I replied. “I’m with a sexy man in a sexy car, and I have a feeling we’re going to a very sexy restaurant.”
Beckett smiled enigmatically.
I was in for a ride—I was sure of that.
CHAPTER 18
PIPER
It turnedout that I was right. Observatory Eleven was truly amazing. It had huge windows that overlooked the city from way high up. In the middle was a bar area with an extravagant chandelier hanging over it, and there were black tables and armchairs spread everywhere. It was a mix of a bar and a restaurant, and I felt right at home.
“I love it,” I said and turned to look at Beckett. I was surprised to find him laughing at me again.
“This was exactly the reaction I was hoping for.”
The host led us to a table by the window.
“Oh, we have front seats!” I exclaimed.
“Of course. I requested that specifically,” Beckett said with a wink.
The seat was a bit lower than I expected, and I shimmied over it until I found a position I liked. I crossed my legs, and what do you know? I caught Beckett staring at me. The look he had was different than before. The hunger in his eyes was unmistakable. It sent tendrils of heat through my body.
He was fixating on my ankles.Hmm.I could be naughty, so I pulled my dress a little up my leg with the utmost nonchalance, like I was simply rearranging it. All the while, I watched him intently. Aha. His pupils were getting even darker.
Then he snapped his gaze up and looked me right in the eyes.
“You’re doing this on purpose.”
