Piper: I’ll get you pralines.
Beckett said he could get me more. I might not be able to kiss the man to my heart’s desire, but I could get all the pralines I wanted.
Usually, I was super disappointed whenever I had to cancel with my parents, but not this time. And it was all because of Beckett and seeing him tonight. It was good that I was wearing this dress, as it worked well for a business-cocktail evening. I couldn’t believe I’d forgotten about the event! Should I ask a colleague to go in my place instead?
Nah, events were my specialty, and I was happy to know that Beckett would be there. I could prepare myself better for those hot lips and charming brown eyes.
By the time I arrived, I wasn’t so sure I’d managed to reinforce any of my defenses. As soon as I entered the venue, I started looking around for a certain tall and frustratingly handsome man. The place was packed, so I realized I probably wouldn’t see him right away.
Maybe it’s best if you don’t find him, Piper.
Bottom line—I was here to network and find potential clients. That was it.
I decided to approach the people I already knew, as they’d introduce me to other clients. Or so I hoped.
I spotted Monica, someone we’d worked with last year, and made my way toward her.
I’d almost reached her when a sexy voice said, “There you are. I’ve been looking for you.”
CHAPTER 14
PIPER
I stopped in my tracks, turning my head. Beckett stood right next to me, looking mighty sexy and exuding power. His suit was particularly fancy, the detail absolute perfection. Beckett LeBlanc definitely had style.
“Hi,” I said.
He cocked a brow. “Need me to turn around, too, so you can take a look at my backside as well?”
I sucked in a breath. Holy shit. He wasn’t even playing or pretending anymore about our obvious attraction.
I frowned. “Beckett, did I imagine our last messages?”
His smile fell somewhat. “No, you didn’t.”
“Well, then.” I cleared my throat, pulling myself to my full height. “We should?—”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
By the way he looked at me, he absolutely didn’t think I was right.
“I’ll try my best to keep my distance tonight, but…”
“But what?” I asked.
“I’ve got a box of pralines in my car for you.”
“Beckett,” I exclaimed. “You are a bad, bad man.”
“Nah, I just like to please you.”
He knocked the breath right out of my lungs. That was an insinuation, right? I couldn’t be sure, though.
“Now, I believe you were heading somewhere. Don’t let me keep you.” He took a step back.
“Thanks. Have a productive evening, I guess.”
He winked at me. “I will. Those pralines can wait until the event is over.”
