He glanced at her, the lights of oncoming traffic turning his silvery hair white.“Tonight was about you.”
“Why?”
“Because,” he said simply.“You need to be able to trust that we’ll give you what you need.”
“Oh, I do.”
His smile was satisfied.“Good.”
“You didn’t want to…” She trailed off, looking for the right word.
“Come?”
Well, that was the right word.“Yeah.”
“Sure. But I wanted you to come more. And so did Jesse.”
“True,” Jesse said cheerfully.“But I’m jumping Knox the minute we get back home.”
“Hey,” she complained, only half kidding.“I don’t get to watch?”
Jesse chuckled and patted her blanket-draped leg.“Sorry, maybe next time.”
“Something to look forward to,” she quipped, and tried to ignore the twinge of renewed desire.
Jesse pulled into the lot behind the pub and switched off the engine.“Lots to look forward to.”
Knox opened the passenger door and slid out, then turned to lift her to the ground.Touched, and not knowing quite what to do with all this solicitous chivalry, she smiled.“Thanks.”
The security light on the back of the building lit his smiling face.“You’re welcome.”
Jesse got out of the driver’s side and came around the front of the truck, and she frowned at him.“What are you doing?”
“Walking you to your door,” Jesse said and, stepping up beside her, offered his arm.
She stared at it, then at Knox on her other side, his arm similarly extended.“Guys, I can walk up the steps.”
“We know.”Knox picked up her hand and tucked it in the curve of his elbow.“We’re just going to walk with you.”
With a baffled laugh, she hooked her other hand through Jesse’s arm.“Okay, then.”
They started up the steps, though Chloe could’ve sworn she was floating, because she thought this might just be the most romantic date she’d been on in…well, ever. They cooked her dinner, made her laugh, made her come, and now they were walking her to her door.
All that was left was a goodnight kiss. Two goodnight kisses.
They topped the steps and walked across the short landing to her door.Since Bailey had driven she didn’t have her keys, but thankfully the door had a keyless entry option and could be opened with a code, so she punched it in, heard the quiet snick of the locks releasing, and turned to say goodnight.
And Knox smiled that soft, sexy, smile, lifted his hands to her face, and kissed her.
He smelled like soap and tasted like toothpaste and mouthwash—standard cleanup protocol after eating ass, she’d been told—and the kiss was soft and sweet. She sighed into it, murmuring a protest when he pulled away.
His quiet laugh puffed warm air on her face.“Well, if you insist,” he said and kissed her again.
“Hey, when can I get in on the smooches?”Jesse complained behind her.
“In a minute,” Knox told him, and kept kissing her.
This time when he lifted his head, he gently turned her around and through hazy, kiss-drunk eyes she saw Jesse’s face. His cheeks were pink with cold, his pretty mouth curved in a smile. She smiled back.“Hiya.”
